Correct me if I'm mistaken, but it seems like this wouldn't really work with a web server that has several worker processes like uwsgi in preforking mode. Each worker process would be sandboxed to its own STATS object and attempting to serv

This whole Netflix debacle is a shame. Its one of the few web apps I don't mind paying for at all since they provide excellent value and user experience on both the DVD and streaming side of things. Hopefully they can continue to do so afte

FWIW, AMQP is the preferred protocol of Celery, the python distributed task library; which we've been using it heavily for the past year at Crocodoc. I have nothing but praise for AMQP and RabbitMQ in particular in terms of performance or r

You can tell a lot about someone (or some company) by the beer they drink. What do you have on tap right now?

So I really like python and would love to contribute to a project like PyPy, but I don't have much (aka any) experience writing interpreters, compilers, etc. What's the best way to start learning about these things?

It almost goes without saying, but one of the biggest benefits in my opinion is that you get to have a different strong password for each set of credentials. Thus, god forbid, if some site you have an account with doesn't encrypt your passw

How about not assuming a company that just IPOed is at the end of its road but instead will continue innovating and finding new revenue streams? They did just raise $200MM after all.

But how he assigns the three titles is almost entirely arbitrary. He might as well just call them Type 1, 2, and 3 programmers instead of trying to artificially force distinctions between developer, programmer, and computer scientist.

You'd be making above market and get 1% and get to lead the development effort? Amazing. That's like the holy trinity of tech startups if you ask me. :-)

Maybe I'm missing something, but what about this is interesting? Is it that Redis is the backend? I'm not trying to bash it; I'm genuinely curious.

I believe what you are describing is more or less what Microsoft is trying to do with their New England R&D Center (NERD center as they like to call it) located in Cambridge, MA. They recruit big time out of MIT, host tech conferences (

Sounds like the author likes hacking but loathes being a professor. Can't help but assume he's doing a huge disservice to his students by being so disinterested in teaching that he forgets about/doesn't even try to improve his lectures from

I hear what you're saying and I tend to agree. I can't help but notice a huge parallel to my days in high school marching band. The state (Texas) imposed a limit on how many hours a school band could practice that our school mostly respecte
