That’s good to know. I’ve had the device for a few years so an update in the last 6 months may have fixed it again as I’ve not tried to use it as I intended since then, only playing in handheld mode.

Why would it be any different to C or C++?

Is that even after the accessibility stuff that kicks in if you wait on the install screen? Apple has let VoiceOver fall behind in recent years too.

Yeah Swift isn’t SwiftUI.

by mattl 1y ago
Swift is just a programming language, I thought?

When I was starting out in the 90s, Executor was one of those very cool pieces of software I would love to play around with.

I'm interested to see how this plays out. I'd like a similar policy for my projects, but also a similar policy/T&C that prohibits the crawling of the content too.

Do not want them anywhere near my work and other people I talk to feel the same.

QuickBASIC, Visual BASIC for DOS and PDS (Professional Development System) all had some variation on the same design. PDS has QuickBASIC Extended. I briefly worked with them.

I have a Keyboard.io keyboard and an Apple Magic Trackpad.

The UK doesn’t have the same thoughts about indoor pets as other countries especially cats.

Do you want a mechanical keyboard?

Yeah it’s not just Linux (I’ve seen that with my own watch. Factory reset needed) but I have a bunch of Apple gear in the same room and I don’t have issues with Bluetooth there. Nor the Xbox, Switch, etc.
76.
by mattl 1y ago
Yeah especially on Linux. WiFi and Bluetooth have always been a little less than reliable.

Which one? I have several of them. I can try one of those. It’s not just the Xbox controller I’ve had issues with. PS4 controller and even wireless headphones have failed too. What I suspect is happening is that the devices are changing the

I think it’s any Bluetooth device as it routinely has issues with headphones too. It’s a shame, I had hoped for a console experience and instead got more of a Linux desktop experience.

Docked with a wireless Xbox controller.

Steam Deck routinely forgets or cannot see the Xbox controller then I have to pick it up, fiddle with settings, maybe install an update. By that point I no longer want to play with it.

by mattl 1y ago
I bought the Steam Deck hoping I’d be able to use it on my big TV with a wireless controller. It doesn’t work reliably, sadly.

I only really watch YouTube on my Apple TV attached to my TV.

I blame autocorrect there. Sorry.

This is my new favorite comment. “ Every Linux WM had an aqua theme. Apple delivered an OS that the “year of the Linux desktop” folk had been (and still are) trying to deliver for years.” It perfectly captures more than two decades of work

Yep. My friend texted me during the keynote with “I don’t want liquid glass. I want brushed metal.”

I’m highly skeptical of this. There have been a number of people in the retro YouTube communities getting crowdfunding for things that don’t really work out. But if he can truly pull it off that will be very impressive. I must confess I hav

The keyboards are way worse now and they all have a trackpad now instead of just the traditional trackpoint that was common to the ThinkPad.

Anecdotal but I have all of my Apple laptops going back to the late 90s all still in working order. The only machines I can think of with a similar build quality was the IBM era ThinkPad range. I’ve never used a Dell laptop that didn’t have

Calling anything an "operating system" when it's not is just weird too.
