Blockchains and crypto tech does seem to provide solutions to many challenging problems: distributed ledgers, immutable and decentralized data, ownerless contracts and program execution, secure and decentralized ownership of a digital asset

By submitting any textual content (GPL or otherwise) on the web, you are placing it in an environment where it will be consumed and digested (by human brains and machine learning algorithms alike). There is already legal precedent set for t

This is true; but there are multiple entry points to that data (The Graph, Infura, etherscan, etc) and just because one fails does not mean the entire ecosystem will collapse (ie: you can easily create a new indexer and switch HTTP provider

Thanks! We used ThreeJS and JavaScript for the engine, and Svelte for the UI. We started the project with a small team, just myself (concept/code/design), Tiffany Beucher (illustration, character design and concept art), Guillaume

Thanks! Lots of things inspire me - Journey and Flower are obvious references, but also many other projects! I find a lot of inspiration through online illustration and generative art communities.

I am more comfortable with JS + Three + Web than Unity/Unreal, and we had planned this as a web first experience. I also wanted a lot more control over the application than what those engines support (eg - in terms of loading, mobile,

Hi all - creator of Wayfinder here! Though it was very much a team effort. Happy to see this resonating with so many people. :) Feel free to ask any questions!

The source code is visible on-chain - it can be queried from the smart contract, but also it has been etched into the data of the “script upload” transaction. This is how ArtBlocks and other projects can fetch the script and display it. But

In theory no; but in practice yes. PoW relies on miners competing for the next block, and block size/time tends to always be a bottleneck for scalability. This is why most secure PoW blockchains have a very low throughput. Solana’s app

I haven’t looked too deeply at it yet - but I don’t think it would lead to more excessive energy costs than PoW. It’s using PoS in addition to their PoH validation algorithm; and you have to “stake” or lock some amount of tokens up in order

It’s good to see more research and development funds being invested in alternative consensus mechanisms beyond PoW/PoS. Solana looks interesting given it’s high transaction throughput and novel PoH algorithm - assuming it can scale in

Stats here fail to track OpenSea, Rarible, Nifty Gateway (three of the largest NFT platforms) and also alt/side chains like Tezos (with Hicetnunc which has recently overtaken Eth platforms in daily activity). Though likely the headline

Perhaps this is a narrow view of ownership that will be expanded by NFTs (or, perhaps not - let’s see in a couple years). I don’t see it all that different than purchasing and therefore owning a conceptual Sol LeWitt artwork, ie: a few writ

In the context of blockchain tokens, “digital ownership” is equally as nonsensical as owning a fine art print with ink and a pencil signature on it. These artefacts, and the ideas of ownership around them, are social constructs. The mental

The basic idea is that distributed ledgers, tokenization, and smart contracts are enabling new paradigms for what it means to "own" digital property — in such a way that it is provably secure, transparent, and decentralized (i.e.

The artist needs to confirm this. For example, many artists selling on Hicetnunc[1] will put their Tezos wallet address as a link in their Twitter bio. If you spot an artwork that looks like theirs minted by a different address, it’s likely
