This brought back memories, but I haven't had to do any of those things for ten years or so now. I've been careful in my hardware purchases, yes, but I've been running mostly Fedora on a couple of ThinkPads and it almost alwa

The endless joys of the ever-shifting sands of the frontend world. I'm pleased there's movement in trying to make it better, but part of me really, really hopes it all settles down soon. That something using Bower can be considere

I'm not sure how this data actually helps. I'll tell Uber where to pick me up, and where I want to go, and I can tell the driver exactly where to stop. Now, if this is to feed into their plans for autonomous taxis, that's all

A great writeup and I feel it's a welcome reminder of some important points: - your programming language and runtime aren't equally good at everything and never will be - you have to choose your environment based on your anticipat

It does, but it's unnecessarily difficult to keep track of all the places undefined behaviour might occur and make sure you don't step into any of them under any conditions ever. We shouldn't have to work like this anymore. C

I'm aware that hardware simulation of processors is something which is done, particularly by the people who design those processors. It takes a lot of grunt to simulate a modern GPU or CPU, and of course getting near realtime is imposs

There's a plan to allow wildcards in deconstruction patterns, but it doesn't look like it's ready in time for C# 7. So hopefully that will appear in C# 8. It would look something like: var (first, second, *) = ReturnsFourThin

Basically yes. Except, with the new tuple syntax support in C# it's using a value type internally instead of the old Tuple class (I'm pretty sure Tuple's going to be gaining a set of deconstructors to allow it to participate

I know why FaceTime wasn't opened like they promised it would be, but I do think it's a big shame. It's 2016 - we should have pervasive standard video calling by now, surely?

Despite that, Windows is still the most popular desktop OS in the world by an enormous margin. You don't help a friend who needs to rename a load of files by saying "well, it'd be much easier if you first installed Linux"
