It's too fucking late. Government, we don't trust you anymore. You're not a part of us. For once, I'm ashamed of being an American.

No one would hire him today. Companies are risk averse, given the current economic/political climate. If you can't produce and "fit in", don't bother submitting your resumé.

I'll echo and extend that. It isn't about production. It's about the quality of the programmer and his/her ability to think. fizzbuzz is a good example. There are people who simply cannot do it. No matter how perfect the environment, th

Not only do I think the "project management" aspect is interesting, I think it is essential! I develop s/w in an R&D environment. My users are very specific about how they use information, but know almost nothing about s/w development.

No one here or on the original page seemed to consider they should design a Monopoly game on the net to be "fun." Especially since Hacker News is about and for entrepreneurs, it would seem natural to turn an idea like that into money. Mon

Fastest doesn't always matter in a grocery check-out lane. Look for the cashier who appears to be a Mom. She's the one who won't crush the bread or put the big jar of spaghetti sauce on top of the egg carton at the last minute. Besides, t

There's no boredom. After family time, I have two areas on which I concentrate. One is algorithms, though I'm stuck on an intractable problem at the moment. (I haven't figured the way to go around it yet. I will; it will just take time.)

The terrible thing about pot is that it makes you two things: lazy; and happy to be lazy. It quells the fire within. Pot may be fun and may feel good, but it keeps you from being anyone.
