It's funny because AMD was at least rhetorically invested in consumer GPGPU a long time ago with the APU thing.

Centralization allows massive economies of scale.

I think a big part of that is changing consumer preferences for larger cars and, to a lesser extent, hybrids and EVs. As one data point, the 2004 Corolla LE's MSRP of $13,570 is $22,063 in 2023 dollars. The 2023 Corolla LE's MSRP

Some motherboard makers (Gigabyte, I think?) would include a socket for the BIOS EEPROM chip, even in relatively mid-range motherboards. I thought that was really cool, but a bit strange. It makes sense on high-end overclocking motherboards

ATX even needs -12V, which was useful for RS232 at that point I guess.

Wine exists, so we already have an open source DirectX implementation for Linux. It's not currently exactly compatible with libd3d12.so, because wine provides a Windows PE .dll, not a Unix ELF .so. Though I think Winelib may already al

Pretty deep in the nitpicky weeds here but I don't like putting mut bindings in parameters. They only affect the body of the function but they show up in the interface, including rustdoc, which can be confusing. It's easy to think

Still have to take off, navigate, talk to ATC, talk to wingman, talk to AWACS, send/receive target data, maneuver, sensor lock, fire, maneuver... Not exactly a top gun mission, but good practice.

A mould is anywhere from a few thousand dollars for a small, simple, high-tolerance part, to many hundreds of thousands for a large, precision, complex mould with moving tools.

Yeah, converting it to gpkg sped it up a lot, thanks! I assumed that since geojson is completely unsuitable for querying directly, it would load the whole thing into a native in-memory format, but perhaps not.

I've been using QGIS a bit for simple things. Viewing OSM road data in a PostGIS database. Viewing geojson files. Everything has been more difficult than I expected, but I think that might just come with the territory. I'm working

Unity is moving to .NET 5+ and, if I remember their documentation correctly, the hold up is entirely on their side and not due to the .NET runtime not being cross platform enough.

Classes are part of the .NET intermediate representation (CIL) that the compilers emit and that the virtual machine executes. OOP is baked in at a low level.

The Fed did raise rates during the good years before this. And that was with a certain president threatening to fire the Fed chair for raising rates.

Do you think that inflation doesn't affect the poor? Or do you think the Fed has some tool which can reduce inflation without reducing wages, which they are choosing not to use? Or some third option?
