I doubt end users will care as long as the TOS aren't absurd (e.g. Amazon has the right to sell your non-anonymized data probably wouldn't fly). People _will_ care that their Silk browser is screaming fast, though.

Here's a list of what's new in 1.9.3: http://www.rubyinside.com/ruby-1-9-3-introduction-and-change... Scroll down on that page for some more lengthy explanation.

It looks like this uses a chat server on alagu.net ( https://github.com/alagu/gmail-irc/blob/master/chrome_extens... ) but presumably you could run your own server as it appears to be a fork of https://github.com/chrismatthieu/CHATS.iO .

Hah, I've never actually looked at the Twitter app for OS X. I'll check it out.

My point is that to a naive user googling to figure out what is going on, the dotfile element of svn is inscrutable.

I think the author's point is that the git internals (i.e. the .git folder) are simple; I don't think the author is disputing that the commands sitting on top of the git internals are sometimes horribly complicated. The fact that the conten

Thanks -- great article. This is the most readable and straight-forward explanation of git's internals that I've seen (and I've read a bunch of articles/books/etc. looking for resources to help others learn git). I'd also recommend The Git

I'd be really curious to hear exactly what is wrong with github's pull requests (seem fine to me). And what "horrible things" does github do to commits?

Yes, this is a UI element Microsoft has nailed. It does exactly what I expect it to do. The "Copy path" button just saves you a few keystrokes.

I don't like the ribbon because it's hard to find things in it. Same reason I don't like menus. Same reason I don't like Apple's ambiguous menu bar buttons. The only solution I've found to this is the Help function on recent versions of OS

I agree that Finder isn't the pinnacle of folder browsing applications. The best example of this from my own experience is how absurdly it is to copy the path of the current folder. The only built-in way I've found to do this is to drag the

I absolutely agree. This was in 2009, so today's obvious alternatives to Java (Ruby or Python) were not as popular. However, it should be noted that for the course I mentioned, the friction of getting started in Java was not an issue: there

It would be great if there was a way to bypass or disable CommandQ temporarily. Like an option in the menu, or something else (not sure what) for people like me who have the menu bar icon disabled.

Is there any way to get around this? If so, is it implemented in any OS? I'm no encryption expert, but it seems like you would need to store decryption keys (or in this case, the login password) in plaintext so they could be used by the OS.
