I see how having a free demo account might be helpful for trying out the service, but a permanently free account is totally contrary to the idea of posthaven. Really though, paying $5 to try it out isn't a huge deal if you don't like the se

Disagree. This is something you should have to pay for, especially given their promise to keep your stuff online forever. Paying makes the business model clear; a free plan starts to muddy the waters and certainly is no benefit to paying us

Apple has done a great job walking users through this process. Setting up "trusted devices" (iPhone, iPad, etc.) works really well: Apple already knows which devices you own, so all you have to do is select the device and you get an instant

Thank you, this has driven me crazy for years. Every blog page should have a way back to the startup's main site. This could be as simple as a bar at the top of each blog page that links "back to startup.com" appropriately if linking the lo

Agreed. There should be a link back to the home page for the blog that is not the startup's logo. The logo should go to the startup's actual home page.

I wrote about different ways to set up a reliable blog about a year ago. The post is still relevant, except I'd add SquareSpace as a good option and obviously remove the part about Posterous. See http://www.maxmasnick.com/articles/bulletpr

This is a great idea. Microsoft Word-style version control (track changes) is not nearly as simple and powerful as Git (assuming you have already wrapped your head around Git, which isn't a reasonable expectation for many non-programmers).

Just happened to me too. There is no better way to piss off your uses than deleting all their email. I could see having a 2 year deactivation, but 4 months? I'm sure the storage space isn't an issue, so this can only be a ploy to try to for

This looks really interesting. I'm excited to see someone is working to bring GitHub to iOS. Looking at the screenshots, it looks like it could use some UI polish ( http://worqshop.com/ ). For now, this will keep me from dropping $5 on this

I wonder how they calculate active uses. I check Google+ maybe once a month...am I counted in there? I wish these statistics were reported in user-hours/month or some other unit that provided real information. I suspect this wouldn't look g

You sound upset. It's reasonable to decide to not use free software because you need more support than the vendor can provide. It's unreasonable to be upset about a free software vendor not providing enough support. This is like the whole c

Yeah, one of my primary use cases is saving PDFs from my ScanSnap, so the free bandwidth totally doesn't cut it. $45/year for a pro account is completely offset by the time saved with the full text search alone.

I (try to) use it for storing and organizing stuff that I would otherwise organize with the file system. Evernote is better than the file system/Dropbox primarily because it does full text search of PDFs (even scans), words in photos, and p

Yeah, what they did to Skitch is really unforgivable. Hopefully the same team who works on Evernote can put some time in on Skitch and add the features they removed back in. The old Skitch UI was ugly and non-standard but very functional. I

I have tried using Evernote for many years (since v1 for Mac), but it never really clicked until this version. For me, the key feature is shortcuts to notes/notebooks and recent notes. Prior to this, it was too time consuming to sort throug
