I find this whole scenario kinda interesting - I don't expect to be able to explain why anything from Douglas Adams should appeal to someone... they can only read it and see if it clicks for them. It definitely clicks for me. On the ot

This is all true.. However what I meant is that the way gerrymandering can indicate a winner that is not the majority choice, is quasi analogous to how the Simpson's paradox exemplifies a weighed average that disagrees with the subtota

Seems to be the statistics equivalent of gerrymandering.

Yeah I agree. This is another example of our own biases/errors being injected to the data, thus poisoning any models we try to build with it. On the surface it seems unlikely there's much of a way to compensate for that, and if th

I like how there are some standout musicians whose catalogs could put a serious litmus test to any definition of 'classical' that one might suggest. People like Bela Fleck and Chris Thile... Some of their music is definitely class

Does anyone else feel it is an interesting coincidence that his name was Reis? Until 1911 that was also the name for common currency in Portugal, then replaced by Escudos at a rate of 1000:1. Is/was this a common name in Portugal?

Shpongle is psychedelic, but is it Psytrance? Posford also did Hallucinogen which was properly Psytrance.

Shame because Hallucinogen was great (Shamanix and a few other tracks were truly awesome) and Celtic Cross was a ton of fun. I wish there was more like this, but Posford is pretty singular in this arena IMO.

Alhambra is another example. This is also the origin of some definite articles in romance languages - el in Spanish and l' in French. So Alhambra in Spain might have been called Al Hambra or similar instead. Interestingly, in Persian (

Coders can and should use remote systems for heavy lifting tasks IMO. A laptop should be setup more like a thin client and not have any ip on it that can be lost/stolen.

Additionally, in order to be 'ethical' by any means, they still have to collect the data in the first place. Regardless of actual intentions around ethical/defined practices, that always leaves the possibility for someone els

Short, but interesting, article. I can at least relate to this notion of 'materialistic pantheism'... interesting to describe what seems to be essentially a mystic perspective as 'materialistic'.

I really don't understand your argument FOR the electoral college. Yes, more than half did not vote for Clinton, but there were more than 2 options. The majority still voted for Clinton, and he had a fairly large lead over the next pla

I was a little confused by the layout and amount of exposed concrete. Not that it sounded bad, but I prefer a bit more damped sound and maybe they intentionally went for a more live sound with the room itself being a major presence. They do

Can you explain your position here a bit? It seems rather aggressive and somewhat demeaning, although I'm not sure if you intended to come off this way. Do you mean people who haven't been to Brazil literally have no right to disc

I have a hunch that the internal management of the image by the application you've described is similar to the case of another comment where the logo could be seen in Windows after saving the file in MS Paint.

I'm not getting that - in Photos, looking at the full size flat-red version, and taking a screenshot, I don't see the logo flash at any time during that process. Nor on the edges when I resize.
