It isn't difficult to examine the science reported to date, combine it with first principles, and have a pretty good idea if a scientific idea is correct or not. By the time regulators have overcome inertia and industry pressure and c

Can't the city afford to build a nice set of apartments there, and let everyone continue to live in the same location with the same rent?

Why is this rather pointless comment voted so highly? You could certainly argue that Musk was quite fortunate at certain key points, but really, who else has accomplished anything remotely similar?

It would be interesting to see this group do a similar test on speakers. They have a nicely designed experimental setup. A speaker test should show a clear cost/performance relationship.

It is hard to overstate the impact of this announcement. Just as solar panels were not expected to reach $0.70/watt until 2030 (reached it last year), batteries were not expected to reach $400/kWh until years from now. It is now q

Obviously you can't go off grid without a solar system, what would charge the batteries? To quote from the original post: "Solar panels are cheap enough you only need batteries to last one night, as you can size the array to opera

Obviously there is a lot more than just the batteries. In solar systems, $7k is not a big amount compared to all the other expenses. I'm assuming you'd minimize your loads, it is silly to size your solar system for a business-as-

This is much more groundbreaking than it may appear. The innovation is entirely in the price. At $3500, you can put in two and be entirely off grid. Solar panels are cheap enough you only need batteries to last one night, as you can size

A lot of police work takes place in public areas, where there is no expectation of privacy and anyone is able to take pictures and video. There doesn't seem to be any reason not to make all footage from public areas generally available
