Microsoft actually has ways of preventing that with information labeling. I used to work on company laptop that was using this extensively and it was not possible to copy something from higher to lower confidentiality. At least easily, ther

Gotcha. But it looks like file descriptors could be made almost as safe by avoiding index reuse. Is there any reason why it is not done? Hashtable too costly costly vs array?

Is there any difference between Windows HANDLE and Linux file descriptor? Aren't they both just indexes into a table of objects managed by the kernel?

Transparent DOM elements with aria attributes overlayed on top of canvas is a typical solution to this problem.

Which is exactly the problem. I can't stand Linux/Mac style scaling. At my preferred 1.25 or 1.5 it just looks terrible.

Meanwhile I'm happy with perfectly crisp text rendering in Windows at arbitrary DPI and had to abandon Linux because it looks like shit on 27" 4K.

And Java could do that 22 years ago[1]. Blame people that were too cheap. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excelsior_JET

There were a quite few independent efforts to bring C#/.NET to the web the proper way (JSIL, SharpKit, WootzJz) but Microsoft was never interested in them and for some reason chose the invest in the worst and most wasteful technical so

Also Vaadin which sort of combines two approaches and these days even allows you to go Java-only or Javascript-only. The company is still alive and well so I assume it's popular for internal enterprise apps.

I think it's only externally exposed as local-only HTTP server, presumably via service worker, so you can open the website you are developing. The IP network is entirely virtual.

If you want Node in your browser, stackblitz has a super fast implementation. I think it's NodeJS compiled to Wasm but with V8 replaced by browser's native JS engine: https://blog.stackblitz.com/posts/introduc

But it's higher level. It lets you expose interfaces and defines memory management and threading vs using raw C functions where you have to manually encode all of that for every other language.

I game on Windows but had to start using Linux/Wine/Lutris because some old games (but not that old) don't work on modern Windows versions. I suppose once WSL2 GPU support improves I will be running Wine over WSL2 :)

I think you're confusing socialism with welfare state. Many of the countries you claim to be socialist are free market capitalist democracies, only with more taxes, regulation and welfare than some would like.
