Now I'm curious: what was this problem? I can't imagine any program in Matlab that one can't simply transcribe into Python almost mechanically.

Or maybe you want to find the height of an average skyscraper so you want to add and then divide. This is going too far maybe. At some point, one has to accept that not all logic bugs are type errors, and not all type errors are common en

There is, more or less. Mine, in fact. But it's ugly. It's repetitive. If someone gave me that solution, I would think "this is way too unreadable to ever verify its correctness". My mistake was using C++98. I thin

The ringing feature works as long as your phone has background data turned on (I think). But the location feature needs you to have location turned on as well.

New policy: "Hello, you have reached my voicemail. Since today is April 1st, why don't you just leave a message and I'll call you back when I have time for pranks, and then we can both enjoy it? Until then, stop breaking my

Then I think it will take a long time before we have self-hosting tablets, and we may never get self-hosting phones.

If I take my tablet and plug in a big screen and keyboard, is it self-hosting as long as the compiler is running on the device?

I think the problem is that the people around you are too annoying about it. They need to learn how to prank more lightly.

Re: favorite. I read the RFC and it seems ambiguous as to whether the bit should be set during a penetration test.

Is this safe for such short functions? What if the patch takes more space than the original code?

I disagree. C++ templates for instance are also duck-typed, but they act at compile time, not run time.

Huh? If Ruby is not duck-typed, can you give me an example of a something that is? It seems like the textbook example. Here are two weird examples: 1. C++ templates and 2) C# variables declared dynamic (I don't know C#, could be wro

Unfortunately, that thing is a false trichotomy. The fact is, choosing option 1 does not save you from the consequences of options 2 and 3. The reason is that the programmer now has to make a choice between boxing things manually, or imple

Another idea is to just stuff the input into a hash table and then say: is 0 there? is 1 there? ... is n-1 there?

But there's an easy fix: don't pick numbers from the given sequence, instead use binary search on [0,n]. Then you're guaranteed only log n iterations.

No, it's not a scam. The mind control is used only rarely. The whole thing would not work if the predictions were not accurate.

I agree. In this case, writing memcpy by hand would work fine, but calling the standard memcpy is undefined. That's just silly. Undefined behavior should be reserved for cases where making it defined is not easy.

I think the author meant that you don't want two separate Turing-complete languages, one for values at runtime, and another for values at compile time.

I have no idea. But I will chime in with one factoid I've heard a few times. If you say things like "the false positive rate is 9%", people's intuitions lead them astray, but if you say things like "9/100 hea

You can't (at least not without non-portable extensions), but you can write cgi scripts.
