Quirk of human psychology: you now know what you're missing. I have this problem sometimes. When I remind myself that it's just a quirk of my own mind, it sometimes helps.

If you think that, you have more number sense than many people. Perhaps more than most :)

But, but, ... why? Who cares what you do in your own time? Read, code, golf, fly, whatever. If anything, shouldn't they be happy about it?

I don't think I believe you. It might be a side effect, but if so I don't believe it's intended. Why would anyone want to filter out people like the person who wrote that blog post?

I think you're double-counting something: 1) static variables outlive function scope 2) static methods don't get a 'this'. 3&4) static functions have no linkage?? I like your fifth though :)

You make a good point. One possible objection: does that actually allow them to do what they are trying to do? Is Android flexible enough for them to bend it to their will?

But this seems to be one of the few exceptions to that law. The headline was a question, and the answer was yes. Well, almost, sorta, kinda.

It's called graceful degradation: figure out what parts of the user experience are so important they have to work even without JS enabled, and make sure they do. They clearly knew what their priorities were.

In the sense of 100% monopoly, you're probably not far wrong. But it's pretty amazing what you can do with 99% market share.

You said not to take the cheap shots, so I replied two minutes ago with a real comment. This one is a cheap shot: starting your own OEM will not help: MS won't give you a windows license. But you will say that just means you must try

Ok, I've read it. I agree it is serious. But I think it's also wrong. Monopolies can be abused in ways that make it almost impossible to compete against them. Let's use Windows as an example. Some companies that sell Win
