At least in academic circles python has always looked like pseudo code for C(or similar) you can execute so everyone has "used it" at some point or another to describe algorithms and stuff. Then the same academic circles do a lot

Well, I regret finishing from time to time so maybe Kierkegaard was right after all: "...whether you hang yourself or do not hang yourself, you will regret both. This, gentlemen, is the essence of all philosophy."

While that looks correct at first glance I'm not sure if the calculation is so simple. You have exactly 1 destination with a plane flight, right ? A to B. But with a train you have A + all stops along the way + B so if done correctly y

I believe the issue is way too technical for most of FB’s user base(which is supposedly enormous) and it seems most senators too so appropriate action is not to be expected. And then you have the issue of people not wanting to look stupid e

Brilliant analogy! I speculate confusion about the term originally came from the word “debt”. For a layman it tends to be associated with an extremely narrow definition.

Where I am(Europe high income) it doesn’t seem to have hit at all especially my industry(software). That being said employers have become MUCH more flexible with remote work.

I look for 3 things that vary greatly between brands/models: 1. Modular build. E.g. with new thinkpads you can’t even remove the battery. That sucks. 2. Good keyboard. 3. Linux support Everything else is usually pret

I definitely like the flexibility – and I can do 5 days in the office if I want to. Although full disclosure my contract did come with 2 days remote included pre-pandemic so I did in fact sign up for it :-)

To put it simply: No, working at an office is not intrinsically bad or evil, BUT everything around it is sufficiently broken to the point where people really don’t want to deal with it. This includes commutes, housing, healthcare in some(!)

I was mainly trying to explain why supply side there are a lot more politics/business submits on HN(go to the "new" section) than usual. And I agree moderators are concerned with other things.

I actually believe 50% is very optimistic. Main reason being we’re talking about a very complex non linear event that is not very well studied and depends on a society that hasn't experienced a default before. Above could also explain

I feel like the 2000s internet would've just split off and made their own thing(e.g. new protocol) in this situation. But it seems we've passed the inertia barrier for things like that.

You say it like it's a worse option. I'd argue it is actually better to burn money since then government won't have so much money which will make it an unimportant target for big corp contractors. And it is currently and ther

That's great and all, but the tax revenue in absolute terms from corporations is probably several orders higher than what you can tax a rich CEO. Just something to keep in mind.
