Hm.. one one hand I can believe this. On the other hand, I believe it is well known that sun-screen is necessary in order to prevent one's skin from aging. What should I do?

Hacker News has this surprising tendency to cling to the past. People here are nitpicking over the definition of the Turing test. What actually matters here is that, if not already now, but certainly in 1-5 years neural nets will most certa

Non-elitist take: Rust seems harder but it allows for compiler guided development. So there's a bit of an upfront learning cost but the maintenance cost is lower. If you change something in an enum variant, the compiler will basically

Wow this is brilliant. I've sometimes tried to reverse engineer APIs in the past, but this is definitely the next level. I used to think ML models could be good for scraping too, but this seems better. I think this + a network request

I see a lot of JQ experts on this thread, so I'll bite the bullet here as a novice. The purpose of life is not to know JQ. I just want to process the JSON so I can move on and do whatever is actually important. Ideally, I'd just b

The thesis for rust is something like "C++ level performance without the pain". The Zig thesis might be "low level as C without the pain". What is Vale's thesis?

How do remote startups function? Back in my startup days, my cofounder & I lived in the same house when we were founding. We slept in the same room in order to synchronize sleep schedules as well. Bandwith was (as expected) super high.

Has anyone tried this shell on linux? If so, what are the reviews? Do we know when 1.0 will come out? I also wonder if there is a frecency file jumper, like z.

I loved this article! Super informative. Very interesting that the author managed to hit a pathological case in rustc.

this is very exciting b/c it feels like one of the 1st language features centered around runtime debugging. Most languages don't seem to do a lot for run-time debugging. Being able to `gdb` and step-through on a local binary is a

Can someone w/ more crypto experience explain how a DAO actualizes its decisions? For example: Here, there was a vote. Now what? Will Blender setup a wallet that can accept ETH? Will the DAO then vote on a transaction that sends money

Modern web apps are good . I prefer to - edit my files in Google Docs (seamless sync) - play games w/o ever downloading them - do design in Figma - swipe on Tinder w/o ever having to install or uninstall it - browse code on GitHu

I notice a lot of pessimism -- presumably at some point someone is going to build much better robots than the ones we have today. (Surely we are not anywhere close to the end game of robotics). I'm inclined to believe Google, with all

I think there's a pretty big downside to WFH: lack of in-person contact reduces team bonds which causes much more... volatility? I.e arguments are more likely to spiral out of control since you don't really know other people /

The problem with BYOC client for Google docs / Figma is that the underlying data isn't simple plaintext, it's too complex, and the protocol requires things like operational transforms, so BYOC wouldn't make sense.

I actually really like TS's type system precisely because it is insanely flexible. I can write statically typed code that easily shapes & reshapes objects & code that fits functional or object oriented programming styles. It&#x
