Something about that article is very disturbing. College kids with no desire to protest or even keep up with politics. And these are the ones who will be running the show in 20 years? I dunno. I don't like that.

That's a good analysis. It looks like the stress of day-to-day life is most manageable at or above $75,000, but overall quality-of-life perception continues to grow forever. That's a reasonable conclusion. Intuitively, I would be more stres

I saw a "view map" a few days ago--sorry, I forget where--and it showed that the hottest (most viewed) area of the screen was the upper-center right. I believe that the top left was the second most viewed.

Not to mention copyright restrictions. The upload would have to come with some kind of a non-commercial-use waiver.

Hurd must have one hell of a lawyer if he negotiated that type of severance without any non-compete language. To that gentleman I say, well done sir. Well done. At any rate, I bet it will be difficult not to breach the confidentiality claus

I'm not sure that I understand why this lawsuit is vindictive. HP fires its CEO and a week later the guy is working for their direct competitor? Yeah; that's going to result in a lawsuit one-hundred percent of the time. You think Hurd might

If I've said it once, I've said it 1000 times: Google does everything 75%. They break into a market just to be in it and then they set it aside and move on. Nothing is ever finished and polished with Google aside from search, the one thing

Is there a way to update Facebook when pictures are posted? That would be a really good way to pull in collaborators. Is there any way for people to search for and find these photo albums? So, like, if someone starts a "Game three of the Wo

This whole "double-down" strategy is a bit terrifying to me. But it could work. The real key though, I think, is that it would only work if the stimulus money put people to work on projects that would increase the Nation's competitive edge:

It's nothing more than a sensational story: product you are comfortable and familiar with is secretly a tool of sex and human trafficking. That's almost the perfect evening news. Of course they'll run it. People eat it up. It has nothing to

Like, the reality that if I stab someone the throat I am free to help myself to the contents of his pocket? I'm not sure how useful that definition is. Plenty of people have correctly perceived reality far ahead of their peers and as a resu

I don't understand why Google can't bother to put together a solid app distribution platform. They advertise apps because apps drive phone sales, but the apps suck compared against the iPhone. The distribution platform is too awful for deve

Hah. I don't know ... I mean, they Strunk & White don't know what the passive voice is. I wouldn't use them as a grammar guide. But they're both solid writers and their tips are--most of the time--quite wise. Of course, you run the risk

I really like your point about making it as short as possible. Short=dense=clear. As an attorney I'm always running up against court-imposed page limits. Nothing clarifies an argument quite like having to cut it in half.

"The great enemy of clear language is insincerity." - Orwell. Which reminds me to add: read Orwell's essays. If I were going to prescribe a list of people that one should learn to write like it would be topped by Orwell and Nabokov.

Do you mean the last 15% to bring to 50% ownership? Without knowing the specifics I would think the best idea is to vest incrementally every week or so. Also make sure you've got accelerated vesting upon sale or IPO. (That's a nice thing to

Yeah, good point. Only Kerouac wrote in one draft. And he was a liar. Don't be afraid of the 10th revision. Don't get attached to that witty phrase. If it's wrong it's wrong.

Read. Read. Read. Then read some more. If you want to write for a modern audience then read as many great works of fiction from the last 50 or 100 years as you can. Read the non-fiction too. Read great essays. Read The New Yorker. Then try

It may appear nowhere in the constitution, but that doesn't mean it isn't constitutionally protected. The substantive due process protections of the 14th Amendment extend heightened protection to a number of rights. Privacy is one of them.

I'm pretty sure that cars are the old hacking frontier. As in, kids into computers today would have been into cars 50 years ago. Instead of lan parties everyone came over and worked on your car.

All the advice that I've seen, from lawyers to VCs, suggests periodic vesting. You want to have shares vest in equal increments every day, week, or month. Any longer than that and you're asking for trouble, like pre-vesting firings and the
