First, let me just say that it never even occurred to me that my iPhone volume would control the TV so I just never even tried it. I would have expected volume buttons to appear in the remote app. That said, I just tried it and it does not

I use AppleTV exclusively, how do you feel you are being sold to? I am guessing it is in the Apple TV app? That is the only place I can think of where I see something like this but it does not seem drastically different from Netflix promoti

I use my phone often too, but you cannot control the volume from your phone so you need another remote too. My Samsung TV remote works pretty well as the Apple TV remote though too. The DirecTV remote control was also programmable and worke

Isn't this just how it works already? If you install the native Apple Silicon version it seems like it either only downloads the pre-built Apple Silicon bottles (which now exist for most packages) or it builds from source. I do not thi

I know there are many of these cables that have been around for years, but I am curious how are they physically secured? Especially where they transit from ocean to land? Is there some long underground/sea tunnel of conduit that the ca

It might be too late, I am not sure really. If the customer wants the service provided by AWS then it is hard to change that. That said, the AWS Elasticsearch service is not that great and it is expensive so there is room to do it better an

I have been involved with open source since 2000. I have been a member of the ASF for many of those years and worked with Apache licensed projects throughout. I have been in the position Elastic is in where I managed the employer-sponsored

Elastic forced the fork. AWS was contributing and complying with the license. Why should AWS not be allowed to make insane profits off open source?

by markphip 6y ago
I do not get why people are coming down on AWS here. Elastic made the software available under the Apache License. That gives AWS the right to offer this service. Maybe they did not have right to trademarks, there are courts to settle that.

When the lockdown hit in March I used this to repurpose a stack of old Thinkpads I had lying around as Chromebooks and handed them out to nieces and nephews that needed them. It worked great. I hope Google does not intend to shut them down.

The Daring Fireball review of the MBP had this to say about the fan ... "The two machines are equivalently fast in a sprint, but the MacBook Pro will win a distance race. But Apple doesn’t call it a “fan”. They call it an “active cooli

I came to make the same comment. I was surprised to see that "technically" Jacksonville is nearly 2x larger than Atlanta but digging deeper it just seems about city borders. Jacksonville is pretty large and not that dense. Atlanta

I got sick of waiting for Apple to fix their keyboards and built myself a custom Ryzen-based desktop. I chose to install PopOS 19.10 on it and it has been great. I plan on waiting a few weeks to upgrade to 20.04 and will then probably stay

Seems like if you really wanted to compare you would have both trucks tow the same loads and then report back on things like range etc. for each different load.

I think it is more about the targeting. Anyone can see what Fox, CNN or MSNBC are saying but Facebook ads can be targeted practically to the individual and few know what messages are being shown to others.
