Nice, im worried that due to Go's young age the libraries might be a bit flaky or lacking, I could be wrong though.

Yes it looks good, but what about mature 3rd party libraries?

It's all about the libraries, Python and C for example have libraries/bindings for most things, e.g. Postgresql, ZMQ, Json etc. Google could invent the best programming language ever but without _mature_ _robust_ libraries it is pretty much

He is spot on, from reading this board it seems like people think you can use a formula to create a successful start-up, just follow YC's template and you will soon be running a successful company. Get a co-founder,produce a slick presentat

A founder is someone who founds the company along with you, it seems you are saying people should just find a random person and call them a co-founder? Why can't there just be one founder?

If you really believe in you startup then _you_ should be handing out forms to potential investors, and you should be giving _them_ 10 min interviews. If your service/product is great then you will have potential investors lining up.

Did Facebook, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Twitter or Dell use YC or anything similar? In my opinion YC is a business to make money out of desperate entrepreneurs.

It would be good to see some stats on the number of companies per exit/valuation i.e. 50 billion 4 --- 10 billion : 100 --- 1 Billion : 10,000

Agreed, I would focus on hiring shit hot testers and automating end to end testing if possible. Unit testing is useful for a small number of examples like a method that does complicated calculations, but I see TDD zealots writing them to tes

HTML5 is fine, but it's for developing web UI's not mobile apps. Sure it would be nice if all the main mobile OS's used the same language and frameworks but they don't, people need to get over that and start developing natively.

Yes come on, does anyone still think they are useful and simply not a complete waste of developer time?

+1 The whole reusability thing is a red herring, it's like the whole Java run anywhere thing, it might save you duplicating UI code but the apps will look crap and run like a dog.

Why isn't it as flexible? And a native app on a mobile device shouldn't try and replicate a full blown web app, it should have only the appropriate features that you would use on the go, but it should do these well and be snappy (read nativ

They are a bunch of PHP hackers, is it any wonder they can't write decent native apps?

I am new to HN and I think the board's post are high quality compared to some other boards. One issue I have is that it can be too serious and void of humour. I assume the blogger of this article needs to lighten up a bit.

Did Apple,Google, Facebook, Twitter or Microsoft use an incubator company? Why do people think they are required to be successful?

If Google are willing to invest in your startup then why the hell would you turn that down?, it's like turning down a BJ from a supermodel, because she demands you do it at her house.

I was dismissive at first of app.net, but I think its great they are getting some build up of users. To have an alternative to Twitter can only be a good thing.

I've built a few LFSs and Gentoo countless times, it was a great learning experience and I learned a lot of command line mad skillz that way. However I wouldn't run a server using it.

I can understand why people are going after the location based social thing, as foursquare is lame and there is nothing much better. But to tie it into such a specific area is insane.
