A couple of decades ago, I set forth to create something every day. It could be as simple as a bit of prose, writing some code, or as involved as a birdhouse. I haven't succeeded in creating every day since, but I did successfully crea

I won a bid on a lawnmower in the UK with my OG gmail. I get a bit of that stuff. Occasionally, I also get a bit of skepticism when people ask for my email.

I wanted to blog the Odyssey from Eurylochus's perspective in 2006. The next thing I knew, I had blogged the Iliad. https://underodysseus.blogspot.com/2006_02_12_archive.html I should get back to the Odyssey.

Is it any wonder? This same experiment is being run every day at hospitals and clinics across the country. Face masks diminish the risk dramatically.

I’ve long thought gravity is more likely to be the product of space between masses, not something that alters it. My thinking is the “alteration” of we perceive as gravity is lopsided entropy due to a field with a gradient of space. I wrote

IMO it's underappreciated how these mistakes are not a bug of human intelligence, but a feature. They reveal a default non-literal interpretation of the world, which can be made less abstract when needed. However, it's the default

Google, DDG, Alexa, and Bing don't "get it", meaning they don't shared a contextual framework that resembles our own. These algorithms mimic a shared contextual framework, but it is mimicry. That is the fundamental reaso

The mistake Gruber is making here is that DDG, Google, Alexa, and Bing did not "get it right". Their answer wasn't wrong, but it's not because they "got it". They never "got it" any more than Siri did

I created https://hubski.com , which has been around for 9 years. Hubski isn't big, but we have a quality community that brings joy. To grow, my friends and I just started posting and chatting. Personally, I think commercial

Do you have a citation for current simulations? The +9m to +31m isn't from simulations. It's from ice core sample and sediment analysis.

Over the last 40M years, when CO2 was at current levels (400ppm), sea level was +9 to +31 meters higher. We need to reduce to 280ppm to start rebuilding ice. https://www.pnas.org/content/110/4/1209 Coastal ci

I repeatedly tried to switch to DDG from Google for the past several years. DDG kept improving, but always fell short. About a year ago, I felt that DDG's results surpassed Google's in quality. Ironically, I think Google's &q

There's actually a significant decline in quality and quantity that continues with age. That's why we cryopreserve them. If brought down to liquid nitrogen temp properly, they can remain viable nearly indefinitely.

This issue is why I started Forever Labs (YCS17). We bank your stem cells. Immunity presents many difficult problems to be solved. I’d rather worry about the therapeutic developments alone rather than add immunity on top of it.

Here's what we can do: 1. Refuse to support politicians that do not see this as the grave issue it is. Most other political issues won't matter if we cannot change the course of global warming. 2. Spread awareness. Update yourself
