To me, it's not the money that's the issue. I just learned about elementary today, and when I'm presented with the main landing page, I feel that it is being very dishonest in what it is actually selling me. I'm not argu

Interesting read. Maybe I've been living under a rock, but this is the first I've heard about elementary. Though, not directly related to their payment model, I wish they would more clearly state that they're a Linux distribu

Facetiousness aside, both what he _actually_ said (in other words, the notes about storage temperature), and who is saying this should be noted.

With or without illustration, really enjoyed the write up. Also fun to think about what would happen if you plot the value that is represented by the "mm^2" over time, and do an integration of the plotted graph. You somehow end up

Direct link: http://hackernews.demos.monkeylearn.com/ Personally, I don't really see a reason for the chart. It would be nice to have a way to disable it.

Absolutely. I would be a huge improvement. I'm thinking more in the lines of stopping three-letter agencies from doing MITM. I don't know if it's actually possible to prove the integrity of the root nodes.

There's a few things I believe would really help getting DANE rolled out. As far as I know, there's really no "out of the box" validation for end users. The web browsers will have to make the validation, or failed valida

I was really confused about what this site had to do with mosh, the mobile shell[1]. It seems the answer is nothing, if anyone else was wondering. [1]: https://mosh.mit.edu/

Though a bit off topic, the tech behind the swiss railway clock [1] might be of interest to anyone that hasn't read about it. I escpecially enjoy this "low tech" approach to clock synchronization: > The second hand is driv

I've not looked into the technical side of this type of request, and it probably makes sense, but it's of interest to not that this also produces my local IP addresses when accessing the site over an ssh-ed SOCKS-proxy.

After I wrote my comment, I actually came to the realization that there probably is some "ssh agent" equivalent out there. This sounds very much like what I would want, yes!

I really wish I wouldn't have to store the private key together with a browser extension I don't trust (no offense to the author(s)). It would be amazing if Windows, Mac and Linux all would support some sort of "safe" gp

Spooky. Seeing as the error happened on the same place each time, it might sound like you were getting errors that didn't _always_ get caught by the checksum algorithm (i.e the error "happened" to match the checksum) (maybe).

Nice writeup, I think your conclusion is pretty spot on. People neglect to buy insurance, don't back up data, and ignore safety margins. Why would they start timestamping their files. That being said, I really like how the service work
