I'm so so pissed when I read about corruption like this. Or whenever I have to use Healthcare. Both are horrible because of government. Your taxes go to waste. Your government enforces Regulatory capture. Why is healthcare unaffordable

I didn't know such a problem may be coming. Would everyone composting solve this? If anyone was unaware, urine is high in nitrogen and when added to compost is like "adding gas to fire, but slower". I never had an issue with

You aren't wrong. Google has screwed their biggest fans too many times and we aren't Apple drones that can be pushed around.

Absolutely do not expect long term support. I'm more curious if the community will be able to keep the project alive or if Google is going to keep the project theirs.

I run a website that would appear to have a ~100k to 1 million visitors/yr if you looked it up on Alexa. That said, the difficulty to funnel someone into clicking a link is insane and unpredictable. Influencers may have 1M followers, b

0 ROI? Are you aware of the total monopoly they have in parts of the country? Without lobbying, competition would have destroyed profitability of telecommunications.

I completely agree. But given I got 4 downvotes for offering to contribute to a FOSS, seems like demand is low.

If this topic turns out to be the start of a FOSS, I'll join as a (senior) design engineer. Find one that doesn't have a patent and reverse engineer it. I imagine the first/original control system was extremely difficult to d

That is not a good indicator. Your mind can always rationalize something. Imagine if a large corporation bought ~50 old accounts and spoofed different computers/browsers. Only 5 votes is needed to hide a post. Controlling the narrative

1 or 2 posting accounts, hundreds or thousands of upvoting accounts. All of this can change the narrative.

The biggest companies can astroturf and never get caught because they can pay a premium for high value accounts. Anything pro S&P500 should be suspect, especially when the comments are defending bad news. Heck if Aldi astroturfs on redd

I've never thought HN was impartial. The fact that discussing astroturfing is against the rules was highly suspect. I consider this a highly censored website with particular objectives, but a decent userbase.

That's just marketing speak. They have no issue giving your data to governments. PRISM for a US example. If not for Snowden we wouldn't know this. How many other governments and Corporations are getting data?

I took a second to think about how I'd respond to a survey that asked these questions. I'd lie. I don't want to get singled out for home abuse or bullies. There are people that have it worse. And having to talk to people that

I think you will have bullies in every situation. Had to deal with them in sports too.

When I first heard the home abuse story I shivered because I had a mere mild version as a late teenager. I literally trained for a marathon because that meant 2-4 hours/day away from the house. The only good that came out of it was tha

The first people I saw to break quarantine laws were teens who met up at the park, then went to someone's house to play basketball. No school + get to see your friends? Yeah I can see that being good for mental health.. My 29 year old

Ofc you don't quite get that. But the longer I've worked for big companies, the less I think a big company needs these. There are departments for new ideas, they can be calculated for profitability by a different department. An en

Why do you think HN is better than Facebook? It's definitely not more reliable. There's less mods, so there is high risks of disinformation.

Do not use CPI as it doesn't take into account technology improvement and outsourcing. I'd take the big mac index over CPI.

Wow, taco Bell literally raised their dollar menu prices 19 cents and 29 cents depending on location. Mcdonald's removed their dollar menu. That and stock prices has me pointing to inflation.
