Nobody really uses the non-blocking channel receive operations. I didn't even know it existed until now. Selecting on multiple channels is, however, is used very often, so this fits that paradigm quite well.

This article is old (from 2009). The guy needs to read the first chapter in the Ruby on Rails tutorial where it goes over generating models and creating database migrations. There's a very nice api for it.

The interface is a little overwhelming -- maybe it's more natural on a mobile device, though. From the video I saw there are too many features. I'm not a musician, but I know a couple and they're not the meticulous type that want to track e

It seems Google is deprecating the http resource, though. If you visit http://code.google.com/apis/libraries/devguide.html#jquery , all paths are listed as HTTPS. This seems like a good solution -- just encourage everyone to use HTTPS to a

From the article: "browsers do not cache files to disk if they’ve been retrieved via SSL" I don't think that's correct at all. Perhaps browsers have more secure defaults with SSL, but if you're explicit and specify Cache-Control headers, it

This seems more like a strategic investment. They're obviously partnering with Goldman Sachs for an (eventual) IPO, and the terms were probably good. Why not do it?

Go does concurrency well, but it's designed for concurrency on a single machine, not so much parallel processing on many different machines.

One of my friends from high school is a freelance dancer in SF. I'm amazing by what those girls are capable of. It takes so much determination to keep going. Most girls can't make a living on dancing itself, so they have to have to find sid

At least the bing text is designed to contrast the background image. The Google homepage looks awful , and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off.

Interesting data, but the comment about political polls is a bit misleading. Political polls are a random sample of a target population and are designed to avoid biases. This is a voluntary survey with plenty of response bias, so I'd keep t

This is a really informative talk, thanks for posting. I'm definitely the target audience - I avoid designing stuff until the very end, and it's often a daunting process. The site mentioned at the end, pattertap.com, is great.

I'm mostly worried about Flash in the context of network usage. I can't say how the power performance is for graphics and gaming, but I'd guess it's about the same as native phone apps. It's easy to imagine flash apps with network access pa
