I think 20-30% of Googlers are L5. If you're able to be hired at Google, you're able to make L5 within 2-4 years.

I didn’t get that at all. It was written in a dispassionate tone but it didn’t blame the driver at any point.

It’s more effective to target visitors. For example if you are male, you never need to see a tampon ad, even if you’re reading Cosmo.

The cost argument is always interesting to me, when you consider it in context. We (in America) recently passed a tax cut that will cost around $150B/year for the next 10 years, and likely more if the temporary parts are made permanent

AFAICT, this is traffic for desktop web and mobile web. It doesn't include the mobile app. Who's to say people aren't just moving to mobile app?

The “western” news spent a good part of 2015 covering Edward Snowden’s in great detail and sealing great damage to US reputation, despite the Chinese, Russian etc. governments having or aspiring for similar programs. Generally the “western”

This is awesome to see and I really hope more companies and institutions follow suit! Building housing should be the number one issue for every politician in the Bay Area and California.

> No, sirs and ma'ams, your home's price appreciation isn't a right Doesn't increased density help property values? If I can build a high rise on your 1 acre plot of land, its value should go up.

Not sure if being backed by coercive force is a positive or negative :). For a reference point, gold is another sovereign asset and it has held up pretty well over the years.

Sort of, the issue is companies typically bootstrap in their domestic market. If laws are restrictive it will kill companies before they even get to the point of international expansion.

Contrary to most comments here, it is significant that other companies do. Facebook competes in the free market. If they scale back on data collection, that will hurt their offering to advertisers and cost them money that will go to Google

> the "world" is willing to translate and adapt its services to it This is a pretty gross mischaracterization. China intentionally blocks foreign tech companies for protectionism.

I really dislike the marketing around "autopilot." The common defense of Tesla's autopilot is that there are disclaimers, and the driver should always be at 100% attention. Well, look at this, copied from Tesla's website

FWIW having worked at Google, I can tell you they take these issues pretty seriously there. This is largely because of a few self inflicted wounds early in the company’s life.
