This is great. I'm an Elixir engineer myself, and would love to contribute to something I can self-host. Are you open to external contributions? If so, what's a good/useful place to start? EDIT: if I would self-host this, I w

Does this discount also apply to the raw ZFS plans at rsync.net? Looking for a reliable and cost efficient place to push my ZFS snapshots via “zfs send”.

PBS Space Time is great, and it always amazes me that we're able to watch such high quality content for free. If you're into paleontology, PBS Eons is equally interesting and has a similarly high production quality: https:/&

Aside from the usual cronjobs to scrub my local and backup pools, I do a few extra things: I'm using https://habilis.net/cronic/ to make sure I don't mess up the email notification part of the cronjob. It

Pro-tip: use a DNS provider that can block ads (e.g. NextDNS) or install Pi-Hole in your local network, and block Samsung's ad network domains. It's sad that this is necessary to keep enjoying a device of $2,000+ that you own, but

If you ever need to, press the on/off button on your iPhone 5x in a row in quick succession. This will disable Face ID (or Touch ID on older models) and require you to unlock the phone with your PIN or passphrase. It also acts as a sho

No. NextDNS and Pi-Hole serve DNS requests and are mainly used for ad blocking and content restrictions on your network. They don't tunnel or redirect your actual internet traffic the way a VPN does.

That's right, although in my experience the staff at Hetzner were quick to replace faulty disks in the past. You should be fine if you keep an eye on your disks (e.g. SMART status reports via cron or systemd timers) and contact support

Seconding this – Hetzner also has pretty decent technical support considering the price. If you get one of their servers, make sure to check the manufacturer and type of hard drives and compare to Backblaze's Hard Drive Stats[1]. Also

Not OP, but I do this too. You can configure Screen Time on an iPhone. There you can limit the total time the device can be used each day. It's also possible to limit usage to certain apps, or block access to certain categories of apps

@patwalls a note regarding Sendgrid. As a user of their free tier (for a freelance job) I was recently bitten by a shared IP that was put on a block list, probably due to abuse by another Sendgrid user. Support does not migrate accounts on

FWIW: I just upgraded to UniFi Protect (with the CloudKey Gen2). Although it's annoying I don't get to run the software on my own server anymore, I've found the Protect app for iOS is much more polished and is much more respo
