I think the “web” is still very strong, but it is now extremely commercial. If a person wants to create a website these days is mainly for business purposes. Pretty much all other uses had migrated to the FAANG (or MAANG, rather).

I'm not the OP, but WordPress is quite complex to maintain. Technical tasks like upgrades, backups, security, server maintenance and testing are all your responsibility unless you pay someone good money to do it. It also takes a lot of

Publii is a good one but it lacks proper marketing. It's just not promoted enough. It also does not have a mobile app, and don't support pages. It could be a good solution for non-tech people that want to own their space and can&

Publii is an alternative to publish a simple blog for free without paying for hosting from your own computer. It's much, much more simple and limited than WordPress, but this is its strength for some people.

I don't think you misread. This post makes a lot of assumptions based on a small change, in a brief time frame. IMO, it's not enough to dictate that WP market share is really shrinking in any significant way just because it lost l

So we must all change our concept of “greatness”. Perhaps more effort to embrace and value what is considered “less” rather than always trying to level up.

There's always some sort of context, this is what allows something to exist in the first place. And even if the artist may define that the context is not “valid”, the audience can make anything it wants with it.
