This is a temporary solution, the whitepaper addresses moving to merged mining (it's not being used in the beginning since sidechains that don't have a lot of hashpower are easily attackable).

A sidechain can be made to pay out bitcoin rewards to its miners, but it needs to get the coins from somewhere, as it can't generate them from thin air like the main blockchain. For example, it could get the coins from transaction fees

Yeah, that is probably pretty important. It looks like a lot of people aren't testing their changes, and any one could have a small syntax error.

No, I'm actually just manually counting votes and accepting/rejecting the PRs. I have become the bot until the limit resets :/

Incorrect, the point of a corporation is to give its directors protection, and to give the corporation itself legal liability.

The bot is in a state of emergency, it has reached Github's API rate limit and can't do anything. Please send a message to Github support telling them why we need the rate limit lifted for the botwillacceptanything account! https

Laws change. I'm just trying to make a statement about this exact issue. If an entity on the internet can't directly be controlled by anyone (kind of like Bitcoin), who is liable for its actions?

Maybe it would hold up if the bot was decentralized. For instance, it could be run on many servers around the world, administered by various people. Those servers could come to consensus in some way to define bot behavior, and could even se

The bot is just running on a DigitalOcean VPS. The license is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, as autonomous entities are starting to become a real thing. This project probably won't become skynet though.

As time goes on, YC will continue to attract the best people in the valley (both founders and investors). It's a talent singularity.

One thing is is fundamentally different than your examples: the money is coming from advertisers, not the users.

The description clearly says "Your phone is able to detect strong radio signals, just like the ones directed at your car by police when measuring your speed.", and the reviews show people expect it to work by radar detection, not

An Android app I made in a few hours makes $500/m from ads, and has 1M+ downloads on Google Play. It claims to be a radar detector for your phone, but that's not even possible (it's actually just completely random). The descr

I assume it's because there is a much higher submission volume on Fridays, so the new posts to hit the frontpage are backlogged in a queue.

By transparency, I mean for example Reddit manipulating the ledger if it was on a central database. They could take away someone's shares, or give someone extra shares, and the community would have no way of knowing. If they issued som

In favor of Reddit managing the ledger centrally? That doesn't allow for the public transparency that they would like, and it would probably be much harder legally (they would be stuck doing a bunch of KYC/AML stuff, which doesn&#

They will probably be using colored coins (assets issued and exchanged on the Bitcoin blockchain), not their own blockchain/altcoin. Otherwise, they would have to worry about keeping enough miners to make their blockchain secure. Color

The fact that you're giving it to users isn't what raises questions, it's that you're first issuing it to yourself so that you control who gets it.

The reason is strictly for fundraising. They have Naval Ravikant as an advisor and he is a proponent of using that model to fund a project. It's a viable model, but I don't think you can call yourself a nonprofit and use it.

Calling yourself not-for-profit doesn't make it true. I'm not so sure why they needed $3M for something that only needs to pay for a few developers, and why they need to be in control of the issuing of the currency (unlike Bitcoin

Storj doesn't make any technical innovations, their plan is essentially "make some nice looking web apps and let other people worry about inventing the things we need". Storjcoin is a standard blockchain, but actually isn
