A well run company acts as one person. That's what a brand means. For good or bad, in the mind of people companies are allocated as a "person". We give personal characteristics to brands, so we value companies that act predic

How dare they describe a good way of getting even white background on photos so others can use it for a nominal (or no) fee? This kind of attitude that any patent is only filed so to be used for a lawsuit is part of the problem. What'

One easy way to know is to run it a few times and observe the behavior. This is why JIT runtimes need a "warm up time" to get really fast, say V8 for JavaScript.

In the spirit of being honest as requested, all of these are so vague and context-sensitive, basically they amount to nothing. You'll have to do a lot more work and be more specific than this generic wishlist, if you want people to rea

It would be if Beats branding on Android smartphones even worked . HTC had a stake in Beats at one point, and a year or so later they sold it. At a loss. And they didn't sell more phones because of it.

Beats is an empty brand, there's nothing in there that I can see is valuable to Apple. Apple can make similar headphones and slap the Apple name on them and there you go. Beats not needed. Apple usually purchases companies for their pe

Indeed, thanks for clarifying my overly dramatic point with a more proper definition of the Birthday paradox. Yet, even once corrected, 50% chance for collision in a set of 2^64 UUID (which can occur way earlier than 2^64) is way too much f

That's not as much as you might think in computer systems. Now, if you want to mark your product SKU with an UUID you have an outstanding chance it'll be unique amongst other UUID SKUs in the scope of every shop selling your SKUs.

UUID aren't sortable by order of creation (on a per server basis which is useful in distributed algorithms), and while you'll hear a lot of talk about meteors, lightnings and winning the lottery, you do risk collisions (yes, whe

I know this argument doesn't make sense at first blush, but it does at second: 1. People don't like metered Internet (which is odd given we don't mind metered water and metered electricity). 2. ISPs want to keep advertising u

It's easy to argue with strawmen like you do, but query and schema support was never the problem of XML. The problem was that XML is a markup language, and JSON is an object notation. It's right in the name. And this results in di
