That's interesting, 4.6 is finally when AI started to become good in my eyes. I have a very strict plan phase, argue, plan then partial execute. I like it to do boilerplate then I do the hard stuff myself and have it do a once over at

This is exactly what got me to actually pay. I had a side project with an architecture I thought was good. Fed it into Claude and ChatGPT. ChatGPT made small suggestions but overall thought it was good. Claude shit all over it and after val

I never knew about this either and it's been very frustrating as I've been converting my Manga library over to webp (savings are insane) and doing any spot checking opens Edge. Edit: After reading the comments, this doesn't s

There is a brand new plugin for KOReader that offers a richer experience and uses Kavita's API. I don't have a link handy, but it was shared in the Kavita discord (and will be on the wiki once I write a new page for it). Koreader&

Some nice performance improvements, really looking forward to their new bundler mentioned at the end for large codebases. My Angular app is quite large and I would appreciate the speedup.

I haven't seen this in the real world or the tooling to back it up. Currently, Calibre is the only software that writes metadata that pulls from online sources. I'm sure Adobe Acrobat also supports, but that's not used in the

Very true, I just rolled out annotations for Kavita (a self-hosted book/comic server) and epub doesn't have the ability to store it in the file (although Kavita has a no-modification policy). Although for cases like Kavita, storin

I don't know much about webp other than you get about 50% savings in compression vs png/jpeg, but it does have some hard limits on sizes of images. It doesn't do well with webtoon reading formats (long strip format). Otherwis

That's interesting, I absolutely hate PDF. Lack of metadata for collecting, format is difficult to support, doesn't layout well on mobile, and very limited customization (like dark mode, changing text size, etc). Only benefit is b

Some amazing enhancements in here, the MCP AI tutor is very interesting and Aria Components look excellent.

There are a few non-paid PDF libraries, but that is the biggest pain point in .NET, anytime you need advanced features for PDF, you're better off paying for a license (it's just insanely expensive unless you're a large compan

I'm not sure, but when I was working with UX years ago, they designed everything for a fixed width and centered it in the screen. Kinda like how HackerNews is, it's centered and doesn't scale to my full width of the monitor.

I will say, Pikapods is really nice because they give a cut back to the developers of Open Source. I'm the maintainer of Kavita, a popular self-hosted reading server and pikapods gives me something like 10-15% cut of each user running

I think LLMs provide value, used it this morning to fix a bug in my PDF Metadata parser without having to get too deep into the PDF spec. But most of the time, I find that the outputs are nowhere near the effect of just doing it myself. I t

I'm super interested in this, I'm the developer of Kavita and would love to be able to extract metadata from ISBN from user's files. Is there a Github/Site where I can follow you (or this project) on?

In modern day Angular, everything is standalone, so the module issue doesn't apply. I've been coding in Angular since 2 and I have never had a duplicate component with the same name. Almost every Angular app uses nearly the same f

Java is quite popular, so it's easy to go back. But try C# out. It's years ahead of Java in performance, features, and syntax quality. I've been doing .NET for years and had to spin up a Java Spring Boot app and it was so pai

Pretty good article, I wish there were some trick to getting more maintainers. I've been working daily on an Open Source application that became pretty big. So far, I've only gotten one full time maintainer besides myself. Many ha

It hasn't changed anything for me. I don't really care if AI trains on my code or not. I write open source to share the code for other developers and give back as a way of pay it forward, to all the people's libraries I'

To add on, r/financialindependence has a good wiki that will also link back to Boglehead, but can cover some of the more advanced concepts and tie it into the FIRE movement (even if you don't want to RE).
