I think of them as noun and verb: a Map is a mapping from thing to another thing; map the function maps several things to other things. IMO, neither are quite named right: surely Map should be Mapping, and map should be mapSeveral?

I just changed my PayPal password today; they restrict the length of a password to between 8-20 characters. Why the upper limit? Once you're at 20, you're likely using a password manager, so another 20 wouldn't hurt.
