At $300/400 for the 15/21 respectively they are most definitely breaking even or turning a good profit on this.

Given the stance on submission with paywalled content being ok, I don't think HN would ban userwalled content. While I highly disagree with this, there have been many discussions about it before and nothing has changed so far.

Pantum is exactly such a company, I cannot comment on the quality of the printers as I still went with a refurbished Brother.

What about MXM GPUs that used to be found in gaming laptops? I know the standard is very niche and thus expensive ($400 for a 3080M used on ebay) but it does exists and you could convert them to PCI-E and thus m.2

I've looked into using SBCs for a DIY a lot, if you're fine with no hotswap and 4 disk then it's doable on the cheap. Since I wanted more than 4 drives and hotswap I gave up and ended up looking for a dedicated NAS. The issu

Likely that it was over 3x the price of the Quest 2 and while it had better hardware it mostly felt like an incremental update. Part of this is definitely because not enough software took advantage of the new hardware it had (i.e. eye trac

I imagine the cost of official parts such as the screens for flagships like the Fold 5 are still going to be very expensive. Even if you need to only replace a simple/cheap part it will likely be a major pain that requires removal of t

Why not get a minipc with the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS or Ryzen 9 7940HS CPU? Both of those have an integrated Radeon 780M GPU which should be better than steamdeck. Price wise they will be come out similar. The HX99G is more expensive than somet

I think the reverse of this kind of exists in the from of Bluetooth to 3.5mm receivers. The one I have and most I've seen support two connections so I can have both PC and laptop output sound on some speakers. You could probably chain

It's unfortunate but unless you're willing to spend quite a bit of money (or are willing to forgo compactness) these are hard to find especially for 3.5" drives. Radxa did have the Taco and Mediasonic does make compact 4/

I'm really not sure that you'll get that much power savings. Given the idle consumption of a drive is ~6W I'm actually surprised my 10 year old server/NAS only consumes about 110W for a system with 10 drives, 10GBase-T,

Because recurring revenue vs no revenue or one time revenue is hard to pass up as a business. I do think cloud based sharing/features do have their place in a tool like this however.

It's weird seeing no mention of Graylog anywhere here which is slightly different but I've found much easier to use in smaller setups. Unfortunately I have no idea what enterprise cost ends up looking like.

10Gbe can be pretty cheap ($30 for X540) PC side with used hardware (SFP mostly and not multigig however). Even generic PCIe cards can add a RJ45 10G multigig port for ~$50. The switch/router side is where I find it gets expensive.

Anytime I want try out some ML stuff I run into this driver and app version hell. Have you given Docker a try? I'm considering going this route for portability reasons but don't know if it will actually help.

Are you able to memory pool two 3090s for 48gb and if so what's your setup? I looked into this previously[1] but wasn't super confident it's possible or what hardware is required (2x x8 pcie and official SLI support?). AFAICT

Given their setup of 120 to 160 cameras to capture the performances, the results seem kinda just "meh". While it's neat that they were able to generate 3D models from all that data, it's also not very surprising. Maybe
