You're right that we may have been naive about trusting our governments. What I don't understand is why anyone trusted businesses (such as CertiVox and Lavabit) to keep their emails secure? If the businesses themselves couldn'

My experience was that the RSSI does change reasonably consistently, but that there's quite a lot of noise (so you need to smooth it appropriately). I also get the impression that it's affected by orientation of the phone relativ

The code I have is at https://github.com/matt-williams/blook8r . My trilateration code isn't great - I tried doing it properly and couldn't get it working in the 24 hours of the hackathon. Positioning along a

Congratulations to the Estimote guys! I've borrowed one of these to test out their signal strength/consistency. (At a recent AngelHack, I built an indoor-positioning system based on triangulation of signal strength. I tested wit

My advice would be to understand what steal is, and what CPU usage your cloud provider is offering you. steal is time when your VM wants to run but the hypervisor doesn't let it because another VM is using it. It does not include time

I believe that steal only records the percentage of time that your VM wanted to use the CPU but couldn't. If your VM doesn't want to use the CPU, the time is always recorded as idle, never steal.

We use EC2 a lot (on Project Clearwater - http://www.projectclearwater.org/ ), but I don't think we've ever seen significant levels of steal except on m1.small nodes. m1.small nodes expect up to 50% steal because y

Agreed. I'm definitely in favor of more demo (and hopefully less business plan). I was at AngelHack London in April and ended up just doing a demo (of https://github.com/matt-williams/argolf ) because I couldn

I agree, and like the fact that you can then read your commandline as a series of steps, going from input to output. However, in bash (and other shells?) you can write "<file grep xyz" rather than "cat file | grep xyz"

I don't have any first-person videos yet, but I should give it a go. (I don't have an iPhone 5, but I can try with my HTC One X.) I'll link to it from the project's github page.

The touch pad on the side of the glass is multi-touch-capable, so it can detect pinch and zoom. You can't use this function via the Mirror API, but you could do it by side-loading an APK.

How were you implementing the Canny edge detector? As a GLSL shader or on the CPU? I implemented a (simple, not quite Canny) edge detector in GLSL and it runs fast enough not to be distracting ( https://github.com/matt-willi

I agree the display is only part of your vision. That's suboptimal but I'm not sure it's a showstopper. The camera not being centered on your face is not insurmountable. (In fact, you'd want it to be centered on your r

I've only run APKs in USB debug mode, but the main "OK glass" screen is just an Android app, which I think is started via an Intent, so I suspect you could hook this and override it.

I'm surprised this works... or at least works reliably. I understood many simple firewalls just blocked inbound SYNs (without performing any kind of IP address lookup). This would obviously prevent this mechanism from working. Is th

At work, where everyone uses Outlook, I often just set up a "poll" for this (even for only 1 recipient - it's only a couple of clicks). It does rely on me being able to guess what their answer will be, but for things like "Please confirm y

I went to the AngelHack 2012 London and it was good fun. Contrary to other people's experiences, the logistics were pretty awesome - for example, despite the fact there were more people at a hackathon than I'd ever seen before, the WiFi hel

"Admittedly not in a web browser though." HTML5 gives you WebGL support, which allows you to compile and run GLSL shaders from JavaScript. For something that is heavily shader-oriented like this, it might be possible in the browser.
