So... git? It's already designed to be decentralized. Hosting a public read-only repo would be as easy as standing up NGINX and pointing it at your repo folder, afaik. At my previous job, we all had individual dev machines that we eac

My guess here would not be to have the entire interface equidistant from the user, but, rather, to have the equivalent of a wrap around monitor. We're already used to having flat screens to interact with and simply curving the display

Unlikely. Self-checkout kiosks can process cash and give change just fine. My assumption is that this is to protect the buying power of the unbanked - which are predominantly low-income, as I understand it.

Might depend on where you are. With the exception of Food Stamps, pretty much every transaction I've seen from lower income people in my area is cash based. I usually feel like an outsider since I generally carry no cash in an area wh

I would direct you to the numerous things that _are_ standard on automobiles. For example, CAN bus[1] which is used in almost every single car you'll encounter these days and is what allows their modern electronics to communicate with

That's a fair point. However, the parent was responding to whether init - in particular - had been audited. So, bringing up other, larger projects that systemd subsumes is a bit disingenuous, imo.

According to the ASPCA: > A factory farm is a large, industrial operation that raises large numbers of animals for food. That's an _extremely_ broad definition that says nothing about the condition of the animals.

Even that can be a difficult distinction. Colonies of trees, for example, have been shown to respond to damage and illness. IIRC, trees release specific substances into their root systems in response to damage or illness in order to commun

This touches on the idea of "poisoned fruit" or, more specifically, the "fruit of the poisonous tree". To quote Wikipedia: > Fruit of the poisonous tree is a legal metaphor in the United States used to describe evide

The difference here is that the former (your example) is automatically correctable whereas the latter is not. If I highlighted that entire function in my editor of choice and hit TAB I'd get exactly the "correct" indentation.

As far as I'm aware, the only thing WhatsApp competed with Facebook over is Messenger, and even that seems like a stretch to me. My impression of the situation is that Facebook bought WhatsApp for its data and user-base; not because it

TIL there's a separate term for the male in this case. Looking it up, it appears the distinction between fiancé (for the man) and fiancée (for the woman) has been falling out of style. This isn't helped by the fact that the distin

I think I can kinda see this argument, actually. The punishment for violating HIPPA is not placed on the individual, it's placed on the company. I work for a company that operates on HIPPA-protected data; if I leaked any of that, I wo

Replacing people might be easy, but it's never cheap - even in industries with an abundance of candidates. The real issue with having your work-force leave is three-fold. First, you lose all the accumulated knowledge of your team. Se
