Kudos to the GR team. Now I have some stuff to move to 3.8.

We can fit a hard-cased cello in it, with one seat folded down, but that reduced rear seat to one person. But yeah, hatchback would have been better.

It’s not just infrastructure, or cost. After watching Apollo 11 the other night, I can’t fathom how that was done in 8 years. Also, in the movie, one of the mission controllers looked to be about 70. To think that when we he was born, fli

I read recently that Honda has stopped all Clarity sales except for CA, especially since the Volt is no longer available. That is a shame because it is a really nice car and fills in the gap between pure EV and a hybrid. 40 miles on full

The second amendment was a compromise to allow a federal, standing army. Requiring enlistment in such is absurd, and goes against the reason it was written.

Yes, just as you describe, but the addition of a transformer allows you to reference the neutral to ground, therefore the hot swings above and below ground. It’s a little more complicated than what I described, as your breaker box is 240V

This is pretty important for modulation in digital communications. Interesting to see others than 2^N, and that 2^N are not square constellations, except for QPSK. Sometimes minimizing amplitude (envelope) variations is more important, or

You can pre-board on Southwest if you are over 6’3”. I used to do it a lot, but they changed it so you can’t sit in an exit row. Though the bulkhead seats are better anyway, and I can usually get those.

Glass scales for DRO are relatively inexpensive. The Bridgeport EZ-Trak I bought at work uses them in the servo system. So getting static accuracy is probably not too difficult, but the dynamic accuracy is a whole different can of worms.

I’m pretty sure I have seen a cosmic ray flash a couple of times over the past 20 years, lying in bed with eyes closed. It’s a sudden, bright flash caused by a cosmic ray hitting the optic nerve. I read that Astronauts get them frequently,

This is a decent documentary on Rolls Royce that discusses the single crystal blade. I think each one has 18 tons of centrifugal force, and uses a few micron layer of air to cool it, so running an engine too slow will melt them. Fascinati

In the DC area in the 80’s, there was a system called Super TV that broadcast adult entertainment at ~900 MHz. I believe they removed the vertical sync, in addition to requiring a UHF dish and tuner. Anyway, as a kid, I found you could tak

I recently read a book about the design of the LIM. It amazes me how young many of the people were. The guy in charge of the LIM design, IIRC, was late 20’s. Just a little older than the guy in this article.

I actually like the cosmosphere better than the Smithsonian or the rocket center in Hunstville. They have a good collection of Russian stuff, and it’s the most adult oriented, with good annotations on the displays.
