Instruction at Oxford is about 5 anvils/year. Think there has been some price inflation since then? Maybe better to compare it to barrels of beer.

Makes me wonder if there is some probability of error vs information density, irrespective of media. I assume eventually you’ll hit some quantum limit where so much of the data, is error correction that it’s not worthwhile. Maybe instead

It will be interesting to see how this handles signal and power integrity. What design rules is it actually following? If it’s just tossing down routes, AI is not needed for that. Shitty auto routers have existed for 25 years, at least.

If that were case, it would be used everywhere. There is a reason I shell out several $k for Altium.

I’d think a 1911 would require more, given they seem to be so finicky. Maybe that’s next on my project list. Glocks, meh. Never cared for them. The ATF raided some shop in CA specializing in polymer lowers. Claimed they were too easy t

EMI is a headache I deal with daily, on far more sensitive receivers, so voodoo is likely. Though just moving the unit next to the AP (increasing RX signal strength) is an easy diagnosis.

A cast lower would still require a non-trivial amount of machining to get it within tolerances. Forged lowers are still machined.

It’s not a trivial amount. I’m in the process of finishing an 80% AR-15 lower. Deep pocket milling with a hand router and crappy endmill just sucks.

Totally agree on the encryption, but why not both? They don’t need a quantum computer to get your 1024 bit key; a pipe wrench will work fine. I need a gun in the latter case. Guns do work. You may end up dead, but you’ll take some with y

Hell, they sell those lists. Though just because you are on those lists, does not make you the typical “gun nut”; FWIW I fall in that gun nut category. The “I lost them in a boating accident” won’t work when they zip tie you to a chair and

I’ll plug the scanner I wrote. It’s not a normal scanner, in that it allows parallel demodulation and recording of FM and air-band AM: https://github.com/madengr/ham2mon

The only thing I track over the years is the price of a regular sized candy bar at the grocery store checkout. When I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s, they were $0.25, and now they are $1.25 or more.

On a couple of tests, we actually had to analytically draw our smith charts on graph paper, then use it for then next problem. Say you want 15 dB return loss at some frequency, well there are two impedances points for that. One with the im

That makes sense for forward response, when you are optimizing for bandwidth or phase matching, or tuning for frequency response. Smith Chart is pointless for S21, though polar isn’t, though the VNA well let you do the former. When I’m wor

No way is the Smith Chart outdated. I use it daily in simulation software and on the VNA. If a Smith Chart is not shown in a meeting, then that meeting is a waste of time. I have a collection of various RF slide calculation tools. The pr

Do you realize how much full sized diesel trucks cost? They typically start at $50k, and can be configured close to $100k. People are buying them. Whether they can afford them, who knows, but they do sell. Flyover country is not broke.

Actually sub-urban trucks, but that was lost in all the comments. For sub-urban, I’d expect an average of urban and rural.

My wife got one of those “fun scans” 3D color ultrasound when she was pregnant. $75 a full 45 minutes with technician on a brand new $$$ ultrasound machine. A regular, 5 minute diagnostic scan on archaic machine is over $1k.

Interestingly for coax, as the frequency approaches DC (say a few 100 kHz), the Z0 jumps slightly.
