What? Yes. Quantum Electro Dynamics (QED) has some pretty compelling explanations at a "basement" level as to how this works. Also, light does not propagate through glass in a straight line, it diffuses, refracts, and reflects.

This is only part of it. A rather larger part, which is being masked by this, is automation. Sounds like a very ludditish stance, but we (developers) are the ones who are fuelling this, by replacing white-collar jobs with software, and bl

When you keep borrowing from the future (which our economies have been doing since Bretton Woods, pretty much), you eventually have to pay off the debt. You can't keep pushing it back and back. No economist or politician seems to under

That's a nice dream, but the reality is that the jobless masses who can't afford the output will simply be: a) forgotten about b) subjugated (camps, eugenics, media control) c) property Or all or some of the above.

And 0.0001% earn more than the planet's GDP in 1968, inflation adjusted. At this point, the picture isn't going to change without a complete collapse/overthrow of the plutarchy.

My girlfriend makes natural scrubs. Struggles. Natural stuff is objectively better in blind trials, and cheaper, but people see natural products as "supplemental" to their "beauty regime" (fuck I hate that phrase), secon

What I don't understand is why anyone would want to rub their face down with BPA. My girlfriend makes and sells 100% natural face and body scrubs - sea salt, natural oils and bases, no additives. My skin has never been so good. Oh, and

You can/do/might use actual prisms for a variety of reasons, however, such as if you're trying to get a frequency-multiplexed set of signals off a single fibre broken down as their constituent components - i.e. bulk data coll

Because it has someone's personal data in it, and the Guardian respects privacy - unlike the NSA, who use it in presentations. That's the only reason they've redacted anything, if you look at where the slides sit in context.

Around about the time when people started rolling out SSL as standard. That'd make sense, as they'd need to move their beam-splitters (prisms!) to behind the SSL endpoints. I think PRISM is just the public-private partnership aspe

Way back... I still use a good old GPO rotary phone. Only thing you sometimes have to retrofit is the capacitor on the ringer circuit, as they're usually dead, or not big enough for today's lower voltage lines.

Yeah, as I said, the farmland is within no-mans-land. It's farmed by permit holders who are allowed to go within there - usually subsistence farmers, some (no official figures, but met a few) of whom are stateless and have been trapped

If nukes are the problem, why is Israel not sanctioned to hell and back? Have nukes, refuse to sign NPT. Because nukes aren't the problem. Protecting US interests by destabilising Iran is the problem.
