This... is very, very similar to this: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/12/04/voyager_one_arrives_... Same phenomenon. Different scales. And evidently two research groups at NASA who don't talk.

Not used, but planned. Nuclear propulsion. No real limit on speed, apart from C, although as you go farther/faster you need REALLY big ships to carry enough fuel. c.f. project Orion.

Paypal/eBay - couldn't find any published figures on this, but looking at eBay's revenues vs. PayPal's revenues, it'd appear that it's a substantial but not dominant share of their revenue. Pricing model - no, it's great, but as you grow, i

If there's one thing I've seen in common among entrepreneurs who've been successful and started young, it's an absence of parenting, or at least very hands-off parenting. Having mom or dad to go running to trains you to spend your entire li

Oh, likewise - I think they've real promise, but they're in a crowded marketplace with a lot of really entrenched players. I guess their principle differentiator is the market they target - but pitching to developers is a big bet. If you'

Ok, stripe's wonderful, but... why is stripe wonderful? It's a payment service provider. An expensive payment service provider. They have an API. It's nicely written - but a nicely written API doesn't make a product. They're available in th

They should execute this filthy pirate. She is clearly single-handedly responsible for all poor music sales in at least the last 15 years. Wait, no, this is utterly irrational and harms the MAFIAA's cause. I say bring on more lawsuits again

It's all about having backers who have fingers in pies that they can arm-twist into buying you. It also makes people who have profitable growing startups without funding like yours truly bitter as hell.

Oh good. Another failed startup with massive over investment, a sucky product and no revenue gets bought for megabucks. Nepotism and back-room deals abound.

Correct. I run a software business. Our top coders are paid higher salaries than any "managerial" roles, by some margin. That said, the managerial roles have more upside in terms of bonuses, but that arises more as a result of how one goes

Those rules work to a degree, but I posted two jobs on Hacker Jobs and then spent the next two weeks telling recruiters to get bent, as they apparently didn't waste time in finding the site and mining it.

It's special because it's SSTO (Single Stage to Orbit), which is far from easy. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsiolkovsky_rocket_equation in order to understand why it's such a feat. Pegasus was three stages.
