It's special because it's SSTO (Single Stage to Orbit), which is far from easy. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsiolkovsky_rocket_equation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsiolkovsky_rocket_equation in order to understand why it's such a feat. Pegasus was three stages.
