Could be. I glanced the neuroscientific theories of intelligence the paper referenced and they seemed to be mostly concerned with dividing general intelligence into abstract sections the purpose of which seems to be to define differences be

This seems to study intelligence as in IQ adjacent items, rather than intelligence as in distilling the algorithm which makes us tick.

Lineages seem to be the downfall of empires. I wonder if the Roman Empire would have survived longer had Marcus Aurelius (or anyone after him) not chosen their heir by biology, but by virtue, as the previous emperors did.

Just to play the devil's advocate here, you can argue that ChatGPT is not really intelligent. It is one hugely complex probability distribution, true, but importantly, a static one. Human intelligence stretches the similar distribution

That's what I love about this particular AI revolution. The technologies are developed in such a non-siloed manner that open source is able to replicate the largest steps forward in a manner of a year.

> Why should society care about the happiness of those people if them being happy / content slows down growth and hence the collective happiness? This is the basic problem of what is our purpose. There's no definite answer. Wha

That’s anecdotal though. For an opposite anecdote, airplanes have been pretty much the same since the 70s.

Okay, need to point out the obvious - a teleportation machine which takes you to the wrong place is a major issue. You really wouldn’t want to materialize to the wrong place.

I understand your point, but I don’t believe the probability to be vanishingly small, just extremely small (in this particular case, based on what we currently know). I believe you and I differ in our prior estimation of the probability of

Nobody but actual tinfoil hats are saying ”it’s definitely aliens”. Nobody is jumping to conclusions. It’s all probabilities, and disregarding a possibility without evidence to contrary despite its improbability is, to my eye, as naive as t

That’s not all, and that might be true, but that’s an example of how consultants in some cases do earn their pay. That being said, they generally don’t seem to.

Eh. It’s extremely probably not aliens this time, though there is a very small chance it is. Given the trajectory of humanity, the alien scenario explaining an unexplained phenomena is not unreasonable, though almost always very unlikely. I

Some companies (mainly those which actually produce physical stuff) may lack the knowledge for fairly elementary process optimization. That's the stuff they teach the upcoming consultants at school. And that's the stuff that actua

But it’s surprising just how much information we do have. What reason did the military have (both US and Canadian) to leak info about the shape of the objects?

Yes, the timing with the Chinese weather balloon was no coincidence. Either policy changed or radars were recalibrated.

To my understanding the latest object traversed from Montana to Lake Huron in less than 24 hours. Can any such balloon really travel that fast?

Strongly suggests against balloons - mainly because they already shot one down and it was no biggie. Aliens are not impossible any more, but drones of some kind remain the vastly most probable option.

I know this has nothing to do with the subject of this post, but this is a prime example of why I greatly dislike the widespread use of obscure acronyms especially prevalent in the US. It took way too long to process that PoC meant ”Person

If the events happen mainly at altitudes, smartphones have a hard time capturing them. There’s also the argument that since these would be super-intelligent beings, they might aim for a level of exposure that they’re confident won’t make th
