Problem with the first two is that, to my understanding, there's zero guarantee that DALL-e will not generate copyrighted material which exists in some form or the other in the training data set. And you can't really check if the

There is no theory of mind, it's a redundant concept. Apes can predict the actions of others as agents of the environment without needing an abstract understanding of what a mind is. Cats are probably able to achieve similar feats. Und

Certainly domesticated cats are much more adept at predicting the behavior and actions of humans.

I know what you mean. For me, it was the facts that the incubation period was 10 days and the virus was asymptomatic yet infectious during that time. Of course, now we have learned that it's infectious only about the last two days.

As a male Finnish citizen, I have gone a year of conscript military training and am now in the reserve. Army life is perhaps the single most bizarre experience you can have in the West. Practically nowhere else do you lose control of your o

Not really, Turing test and its variants aren't that relevant anymore. Even Turing himself didn't like it.

At least they didn't make the copyright mistakes this time. Perhaps it would be better if this version of Vanced stayed difficult to install to avoid spreading it too wide.

Neurons are old. The last common ancestor had some brains for itself, too. Bird brains are much more neuron-dense than mammalian brains. They also lack the layered structure that permeates our cerebral cortex. I wonder if the different stru

A lot of the field of neurology is about sensationalising your findings by binding them to some abstract notion of psychology which doesn't even fit the study.

I disagree with your last point. We should presume that it's very probable that an outsider thinking for five minutes won't be producing a solution, but not disregard the possibility.

What we are seeing, society-scale, is the human ability to adapt to changing conditions. When we have a 'normal' status in society and stable processes which have been fairly unchanged for decades, humans seem smart, since repeti

I don't see the point of cancelling student debt. It's obvious it's not fixing the problem. Probably the only reason it's even on the table is the fact that it's not stepping on any toes.

Certainly not all desires are learned from models, some are a combination of biological mechanisms combined with exposure. Food is an obvious example from the far end.

The problem is that every Excel user is an Excel native. Your product would have to be magnitudes better than Excel to compensate for the cost of forcing everyone to give up their fluency in the software.

You can estimate the trustworthiness by analyzing the motives of the source. YLE is the Finnish equivalent of BBC. They have a record of being extremely trustworthy (this can be analysed retrospectively). Do they have a significant enough i

To me, the VR headset market seems to be mirroring the early console market. Initially there are many options to choose from, but eventually they are reduced to two or three realistic competitors. Right now it seems to be Valve and Meta.

I'm guessing you're aware of this, but it's not so simple. There's no indication that after a baseline level of prosperity, greed and malice will simply disappear. While I agree that capitalism is the best system altoget

No, it's a fact. The West is not going to risk the Apocalypse for Ukraine. Unless Russia directly attacks a NATO country, there is practically nothing they can do to trigger a war between NATO and Russia.

Exactly. Putin personally seems to only have bad choices right now. He is probably hoping that Russia will take Kiev quickly, which could alleviate some of the pressure. If the losses mount, he might be facing the fate of the Romanoffs pret

That depends on how the system is organized. If there is a briefcase with a large red button, and the people in the silos don't know whether the launch is real or training, Putin's decision is literally the only factor.

Launching a nuke to Kiev in the current situation is very much within the realm of possibilities, if unlikely. No other country would intervene with military force even if they did, because nobody wants a two-sided nuclear war.
