I think the context of the banning of Kanye West is important. Kanye posted some really super antisemetic things. At one point, he posted a picture of a swastika overtop of a star of David. Then he posted an unflattering picture of Elon Mus

I think the 'challenge and win' concept is too strict. Just make the move disallowed. You'll need the computer to be paying attention at all times, but nonetheless it would be more enjoyable to play.

Do we need some kind of industry certification for "this company isn't being run by psychopaths"? Wouldn't it be nice if you saw a job ad that said "Hey, we're 'Decent Employer' Level 1 Certified!&quo

Their ecological niche is to live in places with short grasses (easy to notice predators), near water. The natural predator of adults is wolves and coyotes. Their natural response to a threat isn't to run, but to mob up and threaten ba

Does anyone know of a solution that would let me slow down access to certain websites, ideally just for certain devices? I feel like I wouldn't just default to opening HN and reddit all the time on my phone if I knew it was bandwidth

I would love to see this kind of thing applied to an RPG. Randomly generate a city full of people. Make a few dozen of them the important NPCs. Give them situations and goals, problems they need to solve and potential ways to solve them. Ce

Fine, forget putting those people to work on things that make money- have them innovate on 100 other projects instead of just this one that doesn't make money. Amazon's innovation age is dead, imho. They are the Day 2 company th

What bothers me isn't just the wasted money and time. It's the opportunity cost of all of those devs not working on other stuff. Alexa pulled talent from everywhere throughout Amazon. It took up a huge portion of the hiring funnel

A pipeline approval tool (internal at Amazon) that counts metrics. I was a fairly fresh college-hire SDE1 at Amazon. And I was annoyed, because I'm lazy. Every time I was oncall, I had to manage the deployment pipeline for my teams sof

It's the reality of popular terminology. We only have one word in English that gets commonly used and means "is correct this much of the time". Nuance is lost, but it ensures more people understand the general gist of the art

It's all about economics of demand for what Twitter is offering: advertising. Elon's changes have massively harmed the value of an ad on Twitter. Moderation teams are massively cut, meaning advertisers have to worry about their pr

I was worried that this would be an article about how boilerplate is never just boilerplate, how it's actually quite important and we shouldn't consider it so lowly. And that's fine. That's a good, valid opinion. Fortuna

But is any of that profitable enough to justify having literally thousands of developers, probably costing a quarter million each on average? That kind of overhead isn't sustainable.
