I'm wondering why it's only 38%. They charge a lot and mostly work with volunteers. It should not cost 62% of what they charge to run a website to host some pdfs.

I have also noticed this in other HN discussions. Everyone seems to assume everyone else agrees with their view on the topic and there is never any open discussion about it. Usually people just talk past each other and it's never point

I don't know if it was mentioned here but another issue that many people have with Google specifically is it's perceived monopoly position and market power.

They can make use of COBRA and use some of that money to pay for that.

But this seems to be an edge case where you have to rely on functional programming and experimental compiler flags to get the machine code that you want. Portability is typically not a big issue, because you can have a fallback C++ implemen

Protobufs are very important for Google. A significant percentage of all compute cycles is used on parsing protobufs. I am surprised that the parsing is not doing using handwritten assembly if it's possible to improve performance so mu

I second the recommendation to looking into ADHD. That might also explain inconsistent results on the IQ tests. You are smart, but you are losing focus when doing them. However, in some countries ADHD is not taken as seriously especially if

Ironically, maybe confirming that people are interesting in those articles, I was curious what you can not do if fully vaccinated. There are two things you can not do according to the CDC: - Visit indoors, without a mask, with people at inc

I think that is mostly compensated by bachelors taking an additional year. I don't know if what parent comment says is true at all, but if it is I think it's because historically universities didn't have a Bachelor's

I don't necessarily agree regarding FAANG. Once someone gets an interview it doesn't matter much what their previous work experience is.

I wouldn't take what someone says on substack at face value. Does anyone know if the unredacted document is available somewhere?

However, the CNIL hints that Apple’s definition of tracking could be too narrow, as it does not encompass reading or writing data from the terminal — meaning the use of trackers such as cookies. What is the terminal referring to here?
