My guess is that they are not trying target typical westerners. There already is a lot of westernized pre-made Indian food you can buy at the supermarket.

This is interesting! I work at Google, but I didn't know that Google has a PAC. It's actually funded by employee contributions and it's aim is to support an open internet. https://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/

People are going to switch away from Google search, but Google's ad networks (DoubleClick, GDN/AdSense, Admob, AdX) actually compete with other ad networks (like OpenX, Rubicon Project, Criteo, AppNexus). Many publishers use more

I work at Google. Google can be very conservative and risk-averse in following regulations, but ask far as I can tell Google is one of the least pro-government, pro-censorship, pro-regulations, pro-military corporations in the world.

Is that actually the frameing of the article or just the headline? I feel like they just choose a borderline clickbait headline. Maybe they even wrote that headline after the fact.

Actually it could be and it is sometimes abused. You don't need to proof that you are the copyright holder to submit the request. Companies tend to err on the side of removing things to make sure they don't become liable for copyr

No offense, but that comment goes to show US centric HN is. This is like valuing Microsoft based on XBox sales, only that it plays an even smaller role.

I don't think that top-tier research is necessarily equal to top pay. Otherwise universities would not stand any chance. That said, I don't think IBM Watson has published much top-tier research.

Actually you should probably set up a CDN. There is no need to serve pages that are the same for every visitor from your server.

This is off topic, but there has been quite the point inflation since then. EDIT: Too bad we can't see the comment scores... I wonder if PG is ever going to change his mind about this :)

How do you see the market for self-driving cars? How far is Waymo ahead of the competition? Who are the top competitors? How do you see your own position as a smaller startup?

Based on the number of reactions I was completely wrong, but my point was: You are not going to see a news article about avalanches. News is always about infrequent events.

I don't think I ever got a counterfeit item on Amazon. The fact that there are news stories about specific counterfeit items (and not the problem in general), indicates to me that it's not as widespread.

If you don't mind me asking: It seems like you can just run arbitrary stuff in a cloud instance for free using colab including GPUs. This doesn't sound a like a sustainable offering. This sounds a lot like the old Google, which of

I work on C++ code at a large tech company. My workflow is such that I compile and run tests often after I made incremental changes. I feel like I often wait for the linker for ages. I am wondering if linking could be sped up. I feel like a

I understand your point of view if you distrust all Android devices, iPhones and MacBooks. However, most people who say they would never use a smart speaker, happily use their laptop or smart-phone without thinking twice.
