I'm tired of the activism too. I would love to have less of that and more complex discussion that acknowledges the myriad takes on political organization, political economy, economics, basic ethics, etc. that are out there. Forcing eve

I agree that it’s an outlier viewpoint but I’d love it if we moved past categorizing everything along this cartoonish left-right axis. How about: “deep within a humanist paradigm” categorization, or something like that.

I think Avalonia is finally emerging as a partial way out of the morass, a qt-for.net. And why? Because it’s from the ground up, and not from Microsoft.

Also their entire lineup of actual cars is now outdated. The ark is almost Shakespearean. Pioneering renegade builds an empire, lets it go to his head, and leads two thirds of it to ruin. I just hope spacex escapes the same fate.

I think the nullable reference type system in c# is a perfectly workable compromise for languages that had nullability from the very beginning. Once a code base uses them fully, most null-related bugs are gone. And it’s far from an unwieldy

I attribute this to something else, something that’s operating across many different sectors. Technologically, we’ve exhausted the low hanging fruit of various scientific and engineering disciplines. Energy, transportation, construction, co

Interestingly, for my elderly Russian-speaking mom’s benefit, I had an English conversation with it and asked it to reply only in Russian. It complied, and spoke and reasoned no worse than usual.

I had Zoho set up on the lowest tier for a side-hustle project years ago. It did it's job smoothly and without much intrusion. Then the project ended and I forgot about the Zoho account, changed phone numbers, lost the 2fa keys - all o

As we make parenting harder and harder in lots of creative and sadistic ways, more and more people are taking your advice. That’s got its own problems, it turns out.

If you think of them as communication platforms, you’re missing a big part of the picture. These systems are the next step in the evolution of media. Media is a complex beast with tentacles into culture and politics and individual society.

Right on. I moved to Berlin 15 years ago in my mid 20s. Back then we didn’t work very much, we constantly had hangovers, we were constantly out, running around Neukölln and Kreuzberg. Whenever I chat to that age group now, while they often

I wrote medium-to-high density, which means anything between city and "walkable town with a core". This doesn't preclude detached homes. It does preclude sprawling car-centric suburbia, which is similar to rural isolation in

My point was that “private mode” was indeed a mistake on my part, I would just expect a modern llm-driven system to react in some way that’s more productive than “I can’t do that”. Almost anything would be better.
