Off topic, kinda: is anyone else having problems with nature.com not resolving? Firefox and Safari both fail to load it, but for some reason Chrome manages to find the server. OSX, latest.

These are awesome, IMHO: https://usa.denon.com/us/product/portableaudio/noisecancelin... Too bad they're expensive. Interestingly they're $275 here in .se, but listed as $399 on the US page.

That takes you towards HTML- or XAML-style UI definitions. I'm doing something like this in my (experimental) layout lib for embedded devices. I've written a bit about it: https://www.eiman.tv/blog/posts/

I like Arq, use it as a "real, offsite" backup complement to Time Machine. Not quite as fire-and-forget as Time Machine, but darn close! And the format of the stored data is available, which is a nice safety feature in case of maj

You should also be able to detect Retina/normal DPI, in addition to the reported resolution. A bit of "responsive" CSS and checking what was selected using JS should be enough?

That would probably be doable using a PGP-style trust system. Don't know if it'd add much security in practise though, since the "trust these declarations of trust" decision would most likely be automated.

They expose a virtualization API that allows this on Mac App Store: http://veertu.com/ Don't know how robust it is compared to e.g. VMWare or VirtualBox, but it seems to be working well enough in my simple tests.

Way back when we used to scoff at softmodems! Perhaps using the same encodings as modems do would increase effective bandwidth? Edit: never mind, looks like it already kinda does.

Quote the readme: "B-trees were originally invented in the 1970s as a data structure for slow external storage devices. As such, they are strongly optimized for locality of reference: they prefer to keep data in long contiguous buffers

Agreed, it should feel familiar. But also respect the platform conventions. Nobody ever said UX was supposed to be easy, did they? :)

Also, why do the OS X and Windows versions look so different?!? The buttons aren't even in the same places! Different platforms have different conventions and guidelines. Having both versions look and act the same will make it alien

You also want to minimize Flash usage/code size; if your microcontroller has 8KB Flash, a more complex allocator might not be the best use of that Flash. Especially if you've got a allocate-once pattern.

Caching server I'm kinda surprised they haven't done P2P content distribution. or at least sold caching servers 'Appliance'-style. OSX Server has iCloud caching, that caches both updates and user data.

Easy actually: because a well-defined restricted subset of HTML can be machine-audited and there is no way to abuse it. Also, Google can save resources at indexing. But AMP isn't a subset of HTML, is it? They've replaced a bunch
