Yes I do think it's an american thing to buy a separate engagement ring, having a prominent diamond, in addition to wedding rings (which often don't have diamonds). My family in Europe doesn't have the whole engagement ring c

The amusing factor to all of this, is that 99% of people can't visually tell the difference between a $100 and $10,000 ring. As a status symbol, it effectively works on the honor code, or based on someone directly reporting its cost! S

When the stakes are that high however, this is the definition of poor communication. No one's a mind reader, and how many other unspoken expectations are there?

The gold in a typical engagement ring is worth something like $50-100. Not sure what you spent, but the same people peddling mined diamonds are also massively up-charging on the band.

This is fun. I'd really like to see an easy js scripting environment for slightly more complex logic. Though I suppose this accomplishes that since everything is reevaluated upon editing. FYI If I highlight everything and delete, the r

Security and convenience are always a trade off. If you don't want the hilariously low security analog bypass, then you have to provide means for backup power. For an in-wall safe, mains power would seem reasonable.

The people who developed Chia hold a massive pre-mined collection, and plan to go public (as in stock, not ICO) later, so definitely seems like they could profit.

In the US at least, trucks are by far the dominant means of transport, at 5x more freight than trains (slightly out of date, and by value): [1] https://www.bts.gov/newsroom/2017-north-american-freight-num...

In the end this makes sense; an actual car company is much better positioned to actually profit from marginal improvements in self-driving (read: safety improvements) year over year, rather than wait for the windfall of FSD taxi service at

Does anyone know if these types of keys and/or protocols can be made to work without a full USB bus? I'd love to have this kind of functionality in embedded systems, without running an OS.
