Does anyone ever use MetaFont/MetaPost to create fonts (typefaces)? Does FontForge have any scripting capability? I’ve never used it … only read about it. But I down all 5 “computers and typesetting” books by Knuth

https://tozny.com/ sells a service that enables this for any app, not just Google. I have a Yubikey and I find it too obnoxious for day-to-day use. I'd rather use an authenticator app (such as Google's or LastPass

* How is it possible to construct all the previous "search tokens" on the server side? * The client stores does a lot of work (storing a map of all keys, for one). Could the client get away with ONLY generating a new search token

I did a part-time master's in CS while working full time. I was able to take one course a term and it was really rewarding. I could dig into the material for each course without worrying about 2 or 3 other classes - really nice. I also

Pretty good sense of humor from that author: 'This AI is extremely specific in its design, of course, ... for more flexible automation, physicists will still have to rely on the general-purpose research units called “graduate students

Plottable.js is the only charting package I've used that's a real library, not just a set of pre-canned charts. Sadly, the devs don't seem to have a lot of time to devote to updating the site.

It's even more fun when your project uses native libraries, with their own logging, that you can't seem to override at all. (Looking at Mesos, right now.)

It bothers me that they say implementing SSA eliminates the need for "complicated" data-flow analysis. Data-flow has a really nice theory behind it and enables a lot of optimizations. For example, dead-code elimination. But otherw

The link title here is misleading - it's about an article titled 'why people go to grad school.' A better title would be 'A reaction to "why people go to grad school."'

I also found an older post describing how they use Scrum to design the hardware to be pretty interesting: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/designing-the-next-storage-po... . I wonder what limitations the 6-month productio

I haven't used control theory to scale services up & down, but I have used it to regulate requests from a batch process to a production service, scaling the request rate up and down in order to avoid overloading the service. Phili

Trying to use this and I get "exit status 128" for all reasonable invocations of "git appraise request ...". Looks seriously cool and I am sad!
