My personal favorite: > Inference-observation confusion. Inference-observation confusion involves mistaking something that you inferred using logic, for something that you observed.

I offer dedicated Borg hosting at BorgBase.com[1] from $5/TB. As opposed to normal SFTP-based backup services, every backup repo is fully isolated. This allowed to add features, like append-only mode and monitoring for stales backups.

If your customers back up multiple servers, are they still under the same rsync.net account and could they see each other's data? This is one of the issues I aimed to solve with BorgBase.com[1]: every single repo is its own backup user

Personally I mostly use it for SSH via PKCS11. I found that simpler than GPG because it's already integrated with SSH. Still looking forward to SSH supporting U2F (some day).

I would also say that Borg is more feature-complete and mature, not the other way round. If you don't want to run your own server, I offer a hosted Borg Backup service: https://www.borgbase.com This would give you some Borg

I have 5 TB backed up on BorgBase[1] and use Vorta[2] to add new data on desktops (macOS and Linux) and Dan's Borgmatic[3] on servers. (They all use Borg[4] in the background.) This is a great setup because I get notified of failed bac

I asked the same question after several AI talks given by large companies (Google, Nvidia, etc). The general answer is that it's still possible to try out things on a single GPU or several servers and many gains come from good features

Tolerance may vary between individuals. Similar to high-carb diets. Some people can tolerate it well, while others will develop diabetes. Some of the difference can be explained by genetics, but it's still early days.

The NYT is doing rather well with their paid online offering. Around 3m online subscribers. FT is also dong well at 1m total subscribers (includes print, I believe). I wouldn’t call either one a niche offering. Personally I paid for one pap

Most technologies have some side-effects. Burning hydrocarbons for energy, social media networks, antibiotics, you name it. While we reap the rewards, we also need to keep innovating to counter-act the side-effects. The worrying thing is on

They split larger files into segments and only back up new segments. This avoids a) uploading files it has seen before and b) re-uploading large files if only part of it has changed.

Thanks for the mention. BorgBase.com author here. We're not as cheap as S3 Deep Glacier, but cheaper than standard storage and the same price as B2 and Wasabi, if you get the large plan. So not that much difference to "dumber"

Would be great, but human nature is to want more stuff, money and power. On the upside, many "new" sectors don't use natural resources, except human time. E.g. writing blog posts, social media management, doing marketing camp

Another anecdote: Local friend works for Google in Asia. She is basically forced to relocate to SF for 1-3 years and work at a rather low salary (for SF standards) there on something unrelated to her current job. I would suspect that part o

Softbank is invested in both – Grab and Uber. They weren't keen on losing money by competing against themselves.[1] So it wasn't 100% up to Uber to quit and take this stake. 1: http://fortune.com/2018/03/

More reason to keep an eye on hsCRP and take steps if it gets too high. (Most labs use <1 mg/L as limit, but small injuries already raise it to 0.4 for me. So 0 to 0.2 is probably desirable.) The article brings together different is
