Rationality is a broken tool for understanding the world. The complexity of the world is such that there are a plethora of reasons for anything which means our ability to be sure of any relationship is limited, and hence rationality leads t

I don't think there's a problem with spending an endowment down, however university administrators do, and that's a emotional step they need to get over. Agreed on restrictions and would be good to know how large the unrestri

This sort of study is dumb as it misses the bigger picture. The focus on CO2 is for climate purposes. If one is genuinely concerned about the environment then one would look at all power generation technologies, not only solar. If one did

If the faculty itself is not willing to ask to spend the endowment on the research (and they know it most intimately), then why should the faculty ask the rest of us to pay?

This is unfairly downvoted but strikes at the core of the matter. Democracy is fundamentally oppressive of a minority (and often majority). A vote in favour of a government to fund "basic research" (as it is generously described)

You make this statement as if it's fact. The actual reality of the matter is that neither you nor I know how research would progress were the government not stepping in and spending on our behalf. Your kind of argument is what is used

UCLA has an endowment of 3.8bn$. Whilst I'm sympathetic to their desire to be further government financed for the work they do, I feel like government financing should be made available to those that actually need the money. The attitu

Perhaps this will mean a version of YouTube comes out without YouTube shorts integration. YouTube shorts, imo, legitimises the govts complaint.

What makes me more inclined to suicide is that this might have been the perfect time to do this so that even a small interruption in fuel would be catastrophic.

This is not exactly your point but, there is data for fluoride not being good for pregnant women. Because of how ubiquitous fluorinated toothpaste is the argument for adding it to water supplies is significantly reduced.

It's good to see most of the comments here recognise the virtue of an honest exit interview rather than always focusing on the expedient or advantageous to oneself. An honest exit interview is also an exercise of freedom, and if you&#x

One shouldn't be buying a stock like Tesla for an 8% uplift. If it's worth it at 320 it's worth it at 348. I didn't post my comments or short the stock this morning, but I was thinking about it. This just seems like good

What better day to short than today. There is a limit to where the market can whip around a 1tn market cap stock. This is not meme stock 10x downside territory.

I know that Tesla sometimes feels like a religion but there just might be a good time to short the stock. Before going out and saying it's bad software, short the stock first and then ethically berate it. I just did. It's a 200 pe

Ignore the other comment on here. The problem is that if you look at the detail it's far less obvious, and to see this one needs to be sceptical of the stories one has been led to believe. Things to get you started: - look up energy re
