Ethanol absorbs water which doesn’t always play nicely with seals and fuel lines, or at least that’s the commonly held belief.

Depends on what just setting up means. Someone tinkering with their first ESP32? Sure have at it with Chinesium. If you're getting more serious I'd say my $500 Saleae is a more valuable purchase than a $350 rigol scope recommended

I spent around $500 for a used Logic Pro 16 and it’s easily my most valuable purchase. Even for analog voodoo it’s good enough most of the time as I’m debugging logic level signals. I have a very capable Tek scope with all the bells and whi

I interned at a prop shop and all the professional traders there very explicitly did not consider themselves investors, they were day traders. The distinction was mostly a matter of time horizon, almost no one held positions overnight. The

An oddity of the market that surprised me when I got into it is the relatively low price of a hand shaped board. They’re described in the article as high end, and they can be, but odds are a local shaper can make you something custom for ar

I've interviewed at quite a few startups where the hardware was a raspberry pi/jetson strapped to some 80/20. Whether they fix the mechanical design or EE side first usually depends on whether they need to ship and go "s

Any FAANG. But take a look at square for example because they’ve posted more reasonable salary ranges than most. Senior android engineer, 222-272k. Expired now but they had a senior firmware engineer for 202-247k. Unclear if those are base

Definitely true. You’re not gonna starve, if you doing embedded at $BIGTECH probably 200-300k TC, but there will be a discount compared to the regular software engineers wherever you’re working.

This is the first time I’ve heard someone be optimistic about embedded. Better than game dev or EE but that’s only one step up on the work/pay ladder. I find my work interesting but I would have made a lot more optimizing the search ba

It's not impossible and there are some advantages. I watched an entire apartment building in Oakland get assembled in like two weeks. The modular pieces were built at Factory OS in Vallejo and trucked in.

I had something similar to some of the things described here, with a dumber cause. Started getting hardfaults in my firmware after a context switch. Thought bad array access, incorrect FPU settings, misbehaving interrupt. All dead ends. Rea

It happens on Amazon, there was a post on here about it. I’m not sure they’d want to double dip and demand the hush money in that case, but it seems possible it happens on Etsy too.

Congrats on moving out. I'd say the need for electrical skills depends a lot on what you're doing and the state of your company. $BIGTECH with large EE team or embedded linux? Probably ok if you can read a schematic and nothing el
