I joined a small startup headed by a former professor, financed by a mix of SBIR grants and seed funding, and he was really poorly suited to running a hardware company. The biggest gap was the ability to push for schedule and manufacturabil

It doesn’t matter if you think they’re doing something productive for China Apple or anyone else, and the idea that they could suddenly repurpose them to do “AI” is incredibly far fetched. My point is hundreds of thousands if not millions o

The factories are in China, but they're making parts for American or multinational companies. And the CMs themselves may or may not be Chinese. Foxconn is Taiwanese, Flextronics is legally Singaporean but headquartered in the US. Those

The N Judah in SF is actually slower than it was 100 years ago. I lived on 12th ave and if I missed it I could usually beat it to the 9th and Irving stop and get on there.

Capable C compilers have been around for a long time on PICs. I’ve only seen people using assembly for legacy systems that were already written that way. That said I wouldn’t use one for a new product. I think they could still have a place

I haven’t looked into the ultra cheap stuff in a while, are you talking about other 8 but mcus from major manufacturers or the ultra cheap no name alibaba stuff? PICs historically have good data sheets which is worth a non trivial amount of

That sounds healthier for the org internally but I don’t think I’d ever take the job because of the risk of stunting my career growth. Harder to move up the ladder at my next job if I don’t have a decent title at my current one.

Restaurants don't always have the capacity to make delivery orders and may not want to deal with the logistics of impatient drivers coming in and demanding their food in the middle of a dinner rush. In some cases they've set up fa

I ride, and know a lot of people who do, and the amount of injuries from road debris or cars turning left without looking dwarf the crashes from just going too fast. This might be regional though, most places don’t have Bay Area traffic.
